View Full Version : Thunderhill Track Day: December 20th
RUddin3 11-07-2003, 10:09 PM All fellow track enthusiasts:
My friends at ClubZ (1989-1996 300zx Car Club) have put together a magnificent deal for open trackers at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, CA.
$190 registration fee before 11-19-2003
(additional $25 after 11-19-2003)
*Note: Since we are not ClubZ members, there will be a $15 Associate Member Fee in addition to the normal track registration fee.
Here are some highlights:
1) Full 3-mile course (no short course or cyclone bypass)
2) Instructors available
3) ~2 hours of track time (:buttrock)
4) Open skidpad on 12-19-2003 to track day participants
5) Dinner and "Chalk Talk" on 12-19-2003 at ShorTee's BBQ (included in price)
From personal experiences, these people are, bar none, some of the nicest and most knowledgeable car nuts around. Although ClubZ is on a smaller scale than BMWCCA, they provide the same perks and interesting events for a much better price, in my opinion. ClubZ events are very relaxed and have a very "gentlemen" type atmosphere that is usually found in the most expensive events from the likes of Green Flag and others.
If you have any questions, you can email me at RUddin3@aol.com, respond to this thread, or contact the Track Coordinators of ClubZ.

Simply, I guarantee that you will not be disappointed by this event.

norman 11-07-2003, 10:18 PM what's refund policy like? since it might rain...
B.Watts 11-07-2003, 11:38 PM Refund for rain? You should pay extra for rain!
jayhudson 11-08-2003, 10:46 AM Bryan-
Come on out to Oregon. You can get all the rain you want. Free of charge! :-)
Jay
norman 11-08-2003, 08:38 PM i guess if it snows, u should pay triple
RUddin3 11-09-2003, 05:17 PM Norman,
Last year when you jinxed us for rain, it happened to be the worst rain in Willows' history :stickoutt.
Usually, if it rains hard enough to cancel the event, they will reschedule at no cost. But if you can't make it, they will refund your money.
I have yet to do an event in rain, but have done some autocrosses in wet conditions. Rain seems to be my forte as I was able to beat some prepped WRX's and Quattro's in the rain with my BMW.
I don't know what I'll be driving yet, but it either looks like a Nissan 300zx TT or an E46 M3.
You guys (Jay, Norman, maybe if Bryan wants to fly over too :D) should definitely try to make it. It be nice to meet some more of the BF.C crowd.

Raza
kster 11-10-2003, 03:52 AM I just got back from a very wet weekend at Buttonwillow. This was my first wet track day and I had a great time. Rain really is a an equalizer of horsepower and it forces the driver to be ultra smooth. It also does wonders for car control improvement.
If it rains on Dec. 20, I'm there. And I'd pay extra for the wet stuff. :)
jayhudson 11-10-2003, 11:14 AM Raza-
Thanks for the invite. I'm a sissy. As little track time as I get, I don't want it to be in crummy weather. Besides, getting over the Siskiyous in the winter isn't necessarily a slam dunk. Sometimes I-5 is closed for hours. Chains are required and many times needed. There's no way I could use chains on my car.
You guys have fun. I'm done 'til spring.
Jay
kster 11-10-2003, 06:25 PM I signed up and I'll be bringing the miata. :)
norman 11-10-2003, 11:06 PM kster
what's your miata setup like? SM?
kster 11-10-2003, 11:48 PM norman, SpecMiata might be fun someday but right now I can't afford to participate in wheel to wheel racing so I've build a car for open track days. I've done non-engine mods to keep the car reliable (coilovers, sway bars, track wheels, race seat, etc) and plus, since it's a momentum car, the driver is the biggest factor. But miatas are fun track cars and they are cheap to own.
Akakubi 11-12-2003, 03:42 PM I signed up for the SpeedVentures on Dec 13th. Hopefully we'll make it over the Pass... :biglaughb
kster 11-12-2003, 03:51 PM Akakubi, I'll see you at TH on Dec. 13. :)

RUddin3 11-12-2003, 05:19 PM Jay,
That's a bummer you can't make it. But I don't blame you for not wanting to go over the pass in the winter with the BMW. Hopefully, we will have secured our date in the spring soon so I expect to see you then!:D
Khurram,
Awesome that you signed up. It'll be nice seeing you again. I'm still trying to work out my ride situation, but I'll definitely be there.

I remember Michel from our last event. He had the Miata with the "big mouth," right? :D Both of us had a great time together on the track.
I brought my stock Volvo 850 Turbo last event, and was having a blast showing up some choice sports cars. Michel was unfortunate to end up in front of me as I was working my way through traffic. He eventually let me pass him and I guess the sight of a Volvo overtaking him encouraged him to drive faster. From then on he was slightly behind me the whole way as I was trying to hold him off. He was slightly quicker on exit, but I managed to hold my own even with the greasy Kumho 712's and terminal understeer of this VERY front-heavy car.
I had to end the session early as the transmission was overheating, but as he passed by, he gave a big thumbs up. He came running up to me after the session and asked what I had in the Volvo as he was so surprised at what it could do. He was even more surprised that it was completely stock. He really made my day.

Raza
hoche 11-12-2003, 08:10 PM Hiya,
Man, you were really tossing that Volvo around. That was some nice driving, managing all that body roll. I thought you were gonna scrape your rockerpanels every time you went into a turn!
I'll be at the next ClubZ day too, teeth and all. Hope to see you there!

Great to hear from you Michel.
Thanks for the compliments. Driving the Volvo that hard was certainly an interesting experience. :)
By the way, I got some great pics of us coming out of the esses, let me know if you want to see them.
I'll see you guys at the track!
