I am debating about removing my AC, anyone know how much it weighs in an E36 M3????

Thanks,

The bad news is that several engineers have already been there before you. The compressor and clutch are about 15 lbs.The bracket is about 3 pounds. All the little hoses and everything together maybe 4 lbs. The condensor is maybe 2-3 lbs. Removing everything practical will probably get you 26 lbs, at the very most. To remove any of the ac stuff from inside the car, you literally have to take out the entire dashboard, and more.
Very discouraging, but you can certainly try it.

Bob Tunnell left the A/C in his car because he likes to cool off between runs. 26# isn't worth it....

Actually I think Bob finally removed it for the last season or two- I could be mistaken though, I'll check out the m3 at our next event.

I seem to remember it being more like 40#s in my e30 including the condensor, hoses, compressor and bracket. It certainly could be a lighter system in an e36.

Bob removed it for this year running in SM.

Only 26lbs.....maybe it is not worth it :(

it's only worth it if you're a good enough driver to take advantage of the tenth or two that it can yield

BTW Jay, glad to see that GC has finally converted from the Dark Side to become an authorized Koni Service Center :devillook

I have to say that I have been very hesitant to remove mine, but if it becomes a dedicated car in the next two months (an I am pretty sure it will, just need the F250) then its out of there. I hardly use it anyway, and any weight savings is a plus in SM.

THat's funny, I have been looking into an F250 also. Do you like the V8, V10, or Power Stroke Diesel? I am looking for the Power stroke :evil2

I will only buy a diesel! They get like 20+mpg empty and 16 towing, can't beat that, and they qualify as a commercial vehicle so if you have a business, you can write it off
