i sold my 02 m coupe a few months ago and already the search has begun for another car, i have always loved the e30 m3, but chose the m coupe over it for obvious reasons. my question is one that has probally been asked many times, but this is a serious question, not just a totally distant dream.

what would it take to build an m3 into a race car, that could still pass as street legal. if i got the car for lets say 12k what would it cost to make it more fun then my m coupe was, could i do it for 20k in mods? or is building a car thats over 10years old a waste of time when i could just pick up another s54 coupe again for roughly the same price as i plan on spending for the e30? let me know what you think. thanks.

Race cars can't be street legal, duh.

Seriously though, for the daily grind and weekend trackday/autocross/backroad drive and S54 is a much better choice. I'd hate to see you get an E30 M3 and bastardize it with an S50 swap...

Find an E30 M3 with a blown engine, put in an S52, convert to OBD1, and supercharge it. :) Mmmmmm Yummm. and still street legal to boot!

*yawn*

And ghey. Why not just buy a 96+ M3. If you're going to ruin a car, please don't make it the E30 M3.
