View Full Version : What width wheel and tire can I run?
aplsnowboarder 10-23-2003, 07:40 PM :dunno I was wondering what width of wheel and tire I can run. I'm running 185's right now on 13's. They're off an old Fiat, so they stick out just a tad. The fronts rub a little when I turn hard. I'm wondering how I can get some 195's in there. Are there certain wheels that fit well without having to get spacers. I want to stay at a 15 inch or under.
943184dr 10-23-2003, 11:26 PM I went to http://www.racetep.com/bmw.html and the guy there told me that i could run as big as 225's in the rear and the same size in the front with flare's. without flares 205's would be the biggest.

steve k. 10-29-2003, 08:13 PM if you have a proper ofset wheel, you can easily run 205/60r13 on standard fenders. i am planning on running 225/50r13 hoosiers on m y race 2002 with turbo flares.
a lot of people run turbine wheels from 320i with 195mm wide tires.
good luck,
steve k
02turbo 11-24-2003, 06:15 PM I think that 30x13.5x15 tires fit easily..if you make some modifications...check my website (pics 5) :)

is a 225 the most you can run with fender flares? or is that with just the turbo flares?
2002maniac 03-09-2005, 03:16 AM :I'm running 185's right now on 13's. They're off an old Fiat
I would get those FIAT wheels off your car as soon as possible. They are the wrong bolt pattern and could be very dangerous!!
Ohtwo 03-09-2005, 07:11 PM On my 5.5 in width turbines, I had 185s. The rubbed a bit on hard left corners. Not im running 205s on 13in BBS rims, and I havent had any rubbing, though I havent had a chance to beat on it. Its not just the width, its also the "ET" which I believe is inset, that matters.

I have 225's on a 15x8 in the rear with turbo flares and I could easily fit a wider tire/wheel, assuming the offset is right.
BMW M Power 03-09-2005, 09:48 PM super!
what about the front? same thing?
Leif E. Bronn 03-09-2005, 10:15 PM My fronts are 205's on a 15x7, again with plenty of room for a wider wheel/tire.
Here is a picture without the fenders.

And here we have the stock wheel, the front wheel, and the rear wheel.
Ohtwo 03-09-2005, 10:55 PM When you say stock do you mean whatever was on the car or a 165?
Leif E. Bronn 03-10-2005, 12:25 AM When I said stock I meant whatever was on the wheel from back in the 80's when the spare was put in the truck. I think it was a 185
kpolito99 03-10-2005, 10:08 AM I am running 15 x 7 wheels all around with 195/50 in front and 225/50 in the rear. I have used 205/50 in front before but they had a tendency to rub while hard braking and turning in for a corner.
steve k. 03-10-2005, 05:08 PM i do run 225/50R13 or 225/45r13. Hoosiers on my car. Very lowered with turbo flares. Rears have a lot of clearance, but the fronts are very close to both the strut and the flare. Hoosiers are wider then most tires so i think 235 Kumhos will fit too.

s_ribs 03-16-2005, 11:18 AM I have the Alpina wide-body (bad-ass flares :buttrock )on my '70 2002 with 16x7.5 all around. 205/45-16F, and 225/40-16R (both Dunlop SP Sport 9000- only max performance tire I found in the 225/40-16 size). Definitely more room, especially in the back. With the right wheel, a 245 width tire should be no problem at all. What is a problem, though, is finding the right sidewall size without making the overall diameter too much taller.

[edit] I have a set of 4 bottle cap wheels with 195 width tires for sale from my 2002. I don't want much for them ($50 with tires), pm me if interested. Btw, I wouldn't go much wider than this on stock fenders! These barely fit (mostly in front) after lowering the car.

Have any pictures of your car? Which style flares are they? Alpina pig cheeks are my absolute favorite!

Uummm... did you read it? :rolleyes It has the Alpina wide-body. I have some pictures but I suck with computers and can't resize them. I'll have my friend help me get them sized for posting.

M20Curtis 03-16-2005, 08:27 PM I run 225/50/15's on 15x8 Zender wheels with a pretty low setup and turbo flares. They did their own clearancing and just wore a little of the ABS plastic off but now all is good. Not quite the turning radius I used to have though, :(.
fjord7302 03-17-2005, 12:02 AM I have 7.5x16 Alpinas with 205/40r16's. The offset is 28mm. Stock body.

There are several different styles of Alpina flares. Just wondering which style they were.

visionaut 03-20-2005, 03:43 AM I also run 16" Wheels with 205/40 tires on my '02. (TSW Hockenheim-Rs with the rarer 20 offset). Stock fenders, though I've had both front and rear inner fender lips radiused. Car is also lowered with Eibach Pro-Kit springs and Koni Sport shocks.
