dunno if everyone was aware, but apparently the VEIP emissions testing plugs right into OBDII now instead of running it on their mini dyno thing...

that didn't used to be the case, but apparently they switched last july.

not sure how many people know this yet since VEIP tests are every 2 years

I'm up for a test in the next couple of months, I wonder if my o2 sensors will let me pass. :dunno:

Yep, they don't even put the sniffer in the pipe, unless there's a problem! They ran my car on the rollers - it got the "quick pass" :D

Yup...I just had my 325 tested....they pulled it up....plugged it in...and away I went.

>>Yep, they don't even put the sniffer in the pipe, unless there's a problem<<

But without sniffing, how do they know if youre 3 Emissions gasses are within spec??

your o2 sensors post cat ?

i would imagine the computer would tell them if they were out of compliance.

its great for us regular OBDII people, its quicka and you don't worry about some knucklehead behind the wheel revving your car

but those people switching to OBDI, I don't know what they do. Maybe they just put it on the rollers and pass you anyway ?

I was told that they immediately fail you. ALL 96 and newer cars have to be ODBII...regardless of emissions. ODBII is a standard now. They don't want to deviate from that.

You are allowed to convert an ODBII engine to ODBI if the newer engine is going into a Pre-ODBII car. That's the only exception.

and aren't the VEIP stations the ONLY way to get the emissions testing done ? i didn't think state inspection stations could do it...

That's true.

Also, in 1996 Honda was fined HEAVILY for the 1996 Prelude not meeting the ODBII standards.

Oh yeah, I mean, the OBDII -> OBDI conversion is illegal in '96+ cars. You have to take it to a VEIP place and they will immediately fail you for not having an OBDII port. I always assumed the people doing this conversion were doing it on '95's...?

The point of OBDII is that the extra on board diagnostics "know" when the car is running out of spec. That's why there are sensors pre and post-cat, unlike OBD-I cars which only have a pre-cat O2.

Another advantage to owning a '95... :D

Naw...i think most people are doing it on 96 and newer cars...

slow day on the boards today huh ?

Does this mean that you could keep a Track Pipe on? Doesn't it have simulators for ODBII?

well just based on my car, all they did was pull the gas cap test the seal, and then plug into obdii

they did not use the mirrors to look under the car..i can't say that you pull in and they hear a loud exhaust system an anal inspector would not just check..they might

but whats the worst that happens, you get a fail, replace your cat and go back
