What a great course to end the season on. I hope you all had a good time. Now where did you finish? My best was a 51.9xx, good enough for third in this event and fourth on the season. I'm happy even though I got positively OWNED by Greg and Vic.

I got to ride along on John Doby's first run. Man, that car is seriously QUICK. And obviously Doby's getting the hang of it - since he was only about 0.7 slower than Eric IIRC. Way to go John...

Fellow YBR ///Members Ken and Rob did real well, even though they thought dis event waz gonna be a show and weren't prepared for the race... they ran anyway. Sorry guys, I guess the show got moved? Ken's best was a solid 54 seconds, which seems slow for a quarter mile run and they didn't even list his trap speed :dunno .

I stayed the whole day and saw Glenn and Eric duke it out. Pretty excellent. Taking a street car with relatively few mods to a sub 50 second run on that course is phenomenal. Congrats Glenn on the win!

See y'all at Chapterfest next week.

looks like the Koni's make the car a lot more fun to drive. I think you may be going too fast to adequately show off your Rimzzz. Thankfully, was able to watch your run first, to learn where to slow down for maximum exposition of Rimzzz.

How you guys get adequate Rim exposure driving so quickly is beyond me. I guess that's what keeps you coming back.

The event wasn't without casualties...Everything was running smoothly until after my first run, when I looked for my rimzzz cleaner and it was gone! Unfortunately, my 2nd, 3rd and 4th runs were run with increasing amounts of unsightly brake dust on my tight rimzzz, because the stuff wasn't coming off with just the rag. I'm sure the judges deducted points on those runs, which is why my points kept going down as the runs went on.

John - you're going to have to slow down a little if you expect to score higher than 51.9. I managed to get into the 64's on my first run. Preparing your car is critical for these shows.

fun times :)

Definitely a great course. I have been pleased with the courses at FedEx this year, but I especially liked this one. Gave my car a chance to stretch its legs a bit on the back "straight." John rode with me and really helped me take the right line, and my performance really improved from previous events.

I got me a set of blingin' EOM 18s and next year I'll be flossin' 265/35-18 Kumho Ecsta V700s for some mad grip. Can't wait!! :buttrock I be gettin dem rimzzz chromed too yo, fer extra points at dese showzzz!:biglaughb

Yep, great event at FedEx as usual, that is why I make the trek down from PA.

John (yellow M3), it was nice to finally meet you.

I think I ended up winning Street Mod, my best time was 50.3xx.

I broke 3 fan blades...again  . I do not know why this is happening, maybe my motor is flexing due to bad motor mounts :dunno . Anyone have any thoughts. I will have it checked out this week, and, I will now being doing the fan delete mod :D .

Where the heck did Glenn pull that 1 second from on his last run to get in the 49's  , great run :buttrock

What are your guys’ thoughts on this, I am new to autox’s and ran 7 this year. My car has stock suspension and es100’s. I know I could be faster if I went out and bought slicks but my thoughts are that I want to improve my driving as much as I can before I get slicks, I figure if I get slicks right now it would cover up weak points in my driving (btw I ran a 55.090 on sun) My question is did you guys start out stock and run for awhile or did you jump right in to slicks and suspension???

I was very fired up yesterday, I finally got a better time then John V..... :D Which a should have with a "quick" car like mine.

John D-> great performance on sunday, you are getting damn close to Eric's time and you are quickly learning how to handle auto-xes, just stop modding your car!!!!!!!!!! YOu have plenty of power :D

Kyle - I spent my first season on street tires before jumping to R-compounds. Learn on streets first or you will not be able to optimze the traction available with R's. Then, when you finally get the stickies you will be amzed at the extra grip

Matt: It kinda makes sense...with your bad motor mounts, the whole block moves enough for the blades to hit something. Not surprising, as they don't have that much clearance to begin with, IIRC.

As far as pressures on the Victos, I usually run 36F/32R. I did bump up the fronts yesterday to 37, although I didn't really feel anything different.

John V.: Thanks!

Thanks Glenn, I had mine at about 38-39 front, 32 Rear and my ass seemed to be all over the place. Maybe I should not smash the throttle coming out of turns :biglaughb , is that bad :D . I have no self control to ease on the throttle, what fun is that :dunno .

Kyle,

I'm in about the same situation you are. I think it depends a lot on what you are in it for. My main goal is to have fun (but I admit that it's hard to stay focused on having fun when looking at the results.) In my case, I feel my car has plenty of power and not enough tire. This was my first season too, and I feel that I am ready to make the jump to race tires. With some great coaching from John V, I think my driving skills have improved enough that R-comps won't be totally wasted on me. And in my case, the marked increase in grip will make it more fun for me. :alright

Cheers,
Ken

Kyle,

I think it wouldn’t be a bad idea to stick with street tires for another season or maybe even two. Es100’s are not a bad tire to learn on.

I started autoxing in October of ’01. I ran on street tires for maybe 8 months (maybe 15 events on crappy pirellis) and switched to kumho R’s in DSP. I also had my ground control set up before I switched to R’s. I did alright in ’02 in DSP, but I got frustrated being so behind James Sheridan who is wicked fast. I switched to STX (street tire class) and towards the end of the year and I still feel like I can learn a lot on my street tires.

You’ll be faster on the R’s, but if you want to learn to be fast I think I’d be worth it to stick to streets for a while.(I’ve done maybe 50 events by now). S03’s, falken azenis sport, kumho MX are good tires to learn on IMHO. If you drive a set of street tires and not far behind the other B stock or BSP guys(don’t know what mods you have) with R compounds, then you know you are ready. ,

Mark

btw, i ran a 54 something on my first run WITHOUT a course walk.

:boink

I had a lot of fun yesterday although I'm still learning I ended up with a 54.1. I should have been in the high 52's to low 53's with the old man though. Luckily for me I still have Bimmerfest next weekend and one more BMWCCA event to give him a run for his money.

Fun course, though I can see why cones kept flying everywhere. ;) Did a crappy 55.4 and will end up 2nd EM in the championship, not that I could beat a Lotus anyway. :stickoutt

Y is everyone using ME as a benchmark?! You guys should be using Glenn! :)

Damn those re-runs !!!! I think everyone really stepped it up a notch at this event.. there were a LOT of great times and the speration was by smaller margins....

Glenn ya beat me to it.

I notice they only listed the top two finishers in each class, even though it says it listed everyone who did 6 events. Oh well!

Anyone check out the year's overall PAX results (top 5%) at the bottom of that list ?

17) Glenn Ty 1073 points
18) Eric Wong 1070 points

Pretty damned close! Good job guys!!

Wow.. I hadn't even noticed that part... 3 points in pax for the season is like 0.0000001 seconds :P

I don't think they listed all the finishers. I got an email from Craig saying he only had time to list the top 2... I guess so people could start making plans for the awards banquet. I won't be there for the banquet (SEMA Show in Vegas :D), so CONGRATS in advance Glenn!

If anyone was wondering, I was using 38psi front and 35psi rear on Hoosiers.

Well - PAX points are dependent on how everyone else at the event did. It's your PAX time indexed against every other driver. What it says is that you guys were close to each other in every event!

That's why it's been VERY tough competition running against Eric. Enjoyable, but tough.

I have the inside scoop from Lee Piccone, he said that AI (autocrossers inc) is going to hold an autox at Ripken Stadium (in Aberdeen) around Nov. 16 or so.

Huge, very grippy lot! Keep an eye out. If I hear anything, i'll post it here :)

Ooh, and there's a BMW event on the 15th. So it could be a two race weekend!
