View Full Version : Drag Racing anyone? The Beastmaster 10-17-2003, 09:31 PM Heading to the track tonight w/ the guys from BMW of Honolulu. Let me know if you are interested. IslandS62 10-18-2003, 12:43 AM Wow, when you give that much notice.... Reid 10-18-2003, 01:22 AM I was thinking of heading down tonight. It's a pro gas weekend so the track will be prepped. =) If you see me, come say "hi". The Beastmaster 10-18-2003, 01:33 AM No need for preppig the car, JP. Just drive it down and run it. We should be behind the bleachers. If not, call me at 291-2469. The Beastmaster 10-18-2003, 01:35 AM Lets see, I have the Samurai octane booster, now I need some 100 octane race gas! thrlls 10-18-2003, 01:36 AM Now that I have been given the notice, uh no! It's a little late. I might have wanted to go since I haven't seen and been to drag races since the Inch Pincher/Hemi Under Glass days. Maybe next time. :( Reid 10-18-2003, 01:47 AM Originally posted by thrlls since the Inch Pincher/Hemi Under Glass days. The what? :stickoutt thrlls 10-18-2003, 02:03 AM Oops! The Beastmaster 10-18-2003, 08:10 AM Originally posted by Reid The what? :stickoutt I second that! The what? The Beastmaster 10-18-2003, 08:16 AM It was good you guys didn't come. I got there at 8:45 and was looking for the guys to run. After they ran, I registered and went through the newbie orientation. Lined up at 10:30 and finally ran at 12:00! I think things may have been different if the Pro Gas guys weren't there. Reid, you have any input on that? How did I do on my 1 run? I can usually brake torque the motor and hold it, but the darn car started to spin the wheels! I let off and the light goes green, I'm on it again and spinning the tires. The car finally launches and I have to catch up to my friend in the SC 350 GMC Sierra. I catch him at the second set of bleachers and he is a memory. The car ran a 14.87 on the slippery track. Not bad when the 2 guys in the M3s were running 14s. With a little more track time, I could probably get it down to the very low 14s. Who knows, maybe even a 13.99 or better! thrlls 10-18-2003, 12:38 PM You finally ran at 12:00? I would be falling a sleep at the wheel at that time!:sleep I'm curious to see what my car and I would run though. You mean Reid showed up? :D The Beastmaster 10-18-2003, 02:46 PM Reid may have been there, but I didn't see him. I was looking for the M3, but there was only a black one and a red one. I know he was working on a drag Civic, but I don't know what it looks like. Plus I think the Civic he was working on was supposed to be shooting for low ets @ 10 or 11s. The Civics there were running 14, 15, 16s. Reid 10-18-2003, 03:41 PM Originally posted by The Beastmaster The car ran a 14.87 on the slippery track. Not bad when the 2 guys in the M3s were running 14s. The guy in the black 318 (with the M3 front and rear bumpers) ran a best of 13.87 last night. He was trying a different launching technique on each of his passes. The results were: 14.00 (bogged, because he forgot the track was prepped) 14.33 (spun through first and second) 13.87 (slight spin through first and second) 14.23 (spun through first and second) The worst thing about last night is the fact that the timers were down. I wanted to see my trap speed on those runs. Err "his" runs. :stickoutt Reid 10-18-2003, 03:42 PM Originally posted by The Beastmaster I was looking for the M3, but there was only a black one and a red one. The black one isn't a M3, it's a 318. The red one with the carbon hood was running 15s all night. The Beastmaster 10-18-2003, 11:06 PM A 318 ran 14s and a 13? WOW! Is he running a sc or nos or both? So I ran faster than an M3? Cool! And that was the first time I ever drag raced. Do you think heating up the tires in the burnout box would help me get a better launch? Reid 10-19-2003, 03:15 AM Originally posted by The Beastmaster A 318 ran 14s and a 13? WOW! Is he running a sc or nos or both? I'll show you the setup of the 318 one day. I don't want to post about it online. :devillook Originally posted by The Beastmaster Do you think heating up the tires in the burnout box would help me get a better launch? When racing on street tires, drive around the water box. If anything, spin the tires briefly to get all the rocks off of them. The Beastmaster 10-19-2003, 03:59 AM I've been thinking about getting a 318ti as a daily driver for several months. You're evil Reid! I did drive around the box, but my tires still spun. I guess next time I'll have to vary launch techniques and tire pressure. PM me about the M3 parts. My gf needs a new exhaust for her 325i. You wouldn't happen to have a spare M3 front bumper? Reid 10-19-2003, 05:34 AM Originally posted by The Beastmaster I did drive around the box, but my tires still spun. I guess next time I'll have to vary launch techniques and tire pressure. The launch pad at our track is slippery. You will spin your tires more here, than anywhere else on this island. This being the case, the only way to get traction is to run drag radials or slicks. Well, I suppose you could get traction by not having any power, but that's no fun. IslandS62 10-19-2003, 01:52 PM I have been looking at 318ti's too, in fact I was just talking to Anna about it over lunch yesterday as I was admiring a nice red club sport with the retractable canvas roof (California package?). It might make a nice drive with a Downing Atlanta supercharger under the hood. If I did get one though, I will forever be BMW Hatchback man! I don't know why the heck I like hatchbacks so much, I love the new VW Golf R32 as well...:dunno:maybe because my first car was a 240Z? The Beastmaster 10-19-2003, 04:24 PM Aaah, a trendsetter! |
