View Full Version : Poker Run
The Beastmaster 10-14-2003, 02:41 AM How's Sunday, November 23 sound? This will also be a fundraiser for our local Food Bank.
We will drive around the island and each driver will be given a card at one of five stops. The best hand after our five stops, wins 50% of the pot. 2nd place gets 30% and 3rd place gets 20% of the pot. i.e. 10 participants@ $10 each for a pot of $100, 1st $50, 2nd $30, 3rd $20.
The ante? $10 per car and of course, some canned goods.
At first, I thought about doing it on the Thanksgiving weekend, but why not collect the food on Sunday and I'll deliver to the Food Bank on Monday! That way we can have some fun and help those who are less fortunate at the same time! Then we can all have a Happy Thanksgiving!
If you are inclined to do so, you may donate your winnings to the Food Bank.
So who's in?
IslandS62 10-14-2003, 04:39 PM Again?! We just went around the island. :D
Sounds like a fun event, but I think we need a set route and printed maps. We sure could have used them on the last drive. Also I think we all need to exchange cell #'s if the driver's don't have FRS radios.
It will give me a chance to run the car with some new mods ;)
I got the Conforti Intake on and I think I just scored a Triflo exhaust from a guy in Texas. So maybe we can have DIY #3 on weekend between now and then to get this thing mounted? :D
"If you are inclined to do so, you may donate your winnings to the Food Bank."
Geeez what a guilt trip...might as well make it a requirement, no one can keep it now! :)

When is good for everyone?
The Beastmaster 10-14-2003, 06:55 PM Let's just say I'm going out with a bang and doing a charity event as most CCA chapters do!
IslandS62 10-14-2003, 07:18 PM When is good for everyone?
Who are you kidding Reid, you never come anyway!:nono
j/k I am sure the exhaust won't be here for at least 2 weeks, but if we have stuff to do in the meantime you guys are welcome at my place. At leat Reid is not all the way in Hawaii Kai like everyone else!
The Beastmaster 10-14-2003, 08:03 PM I'm also working on a Street Survival course w/ BMWCCA Foundation for our youngsters.

My car will finally be "ready" after being out of commission for many moons.

Interesting. What exactly will this course entail?
If you say wet skidpad, I'm there.:)
The Beastmaster 10-15-2003, 01:59 AM You guys are too old for the street survival course! That includes you too, Reid!
The age for Street Survival is 16 - 19. One of the particulars is they want a wet track or skidpad. The logistics of working that out will be interesting! However, we will need lots of instructors as BMWCCA Foundation wants a 2 - 1 ratio of students to instructor.
thrlls 10-15-2003, 04:26 AM I make the age limit! :D
I'm good for the P-run, and DIY. Just let me know when.
I still have a thumping sound at the rear right, but my rsm are good. Maybe it can be located at the DIY. :(
IslandS62 10-15-2003, 05:05 AM Hey we already did the wet skidpad, and it took no effort at all :D
Just learn to do the Indian Rain Dance Bri!:redspot
So where are we going to get the students for the street survival course? Hopefully they won't be as... "disagreeable" as some younger participants at the last A500. Also will any members of the club even be in attendance to this course?
The Beastmaster 10-15-2003, 08:28 AM ONe of our members brought it up and so I followed up w/ Nat'l about Street Survival. It may be good to have that youngster back so we can teach him a thing or two. I think the tariff will keep other away as CCA Foundation has a set price of $125 which includes a 1 year BMW CCA membership.
Maybe we can do a shoot the $hit session at the next DIY and I can fill you guys in on it.
IslandS62 10-15-2003, 06:06 PM OK I will revive the DIY#3 Day thread and try and get that going...
sounds good to me since i missed the last run...
pm me and i'll give you my cell #.
im down for the diy 3 as well unless its on a saturday..:bawl
my little girl got hula class...

thrlls 10-18-2003, 03:06 AM May not be able to make this Poker Run, I may have to work. :(
The Beastmaster 10-18-2003, 09:17 AM Play hooky!
thrlls 10-18-2003, 01:30 PM I wish, but I can't due to moving the operation at JAWS. It may only take 1/2 the day Friday and all day Saturday. I'll be implementing mandatory OT, so it may get done sooner than Sunday.
The Beastmaster 10-18-2003, 03:39 PM Will anything good be falling off the truck?
808Cardinal87 10-19-2003, 01:40 AM Hey Beast...If you guys are still running the P-run on the 23rd, I'll be there on vacation! If you need a passenger (hint, hint) I'd love to meet up with all of you. I need to start networking for a job out there. :awink:
Or I can drive the rental and beat the crap out of it :alright
I'll be staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village from the 21st to Dec 2nd.
The Beastmaster 10-19-2003, 03:33 AM Remind me when you get here. You will have internet access, won't you?
808Cardinal87 10-19-2003, 05:41 PM Of course..I'm on vacation but I'm still expected to do work, so the laptop gets brought everywhere. I'll post or e-mail when I get there.
Thanks!
Hey Beast....what happens if there are more than 10 cars that signs up for the poker run?:dunno
just wondering....oh yea....i just got the word count me in for the run:buttrock
The Beastmaster 10-24-2003, 06:19 PM Multiple decks of cards!
ADAM///M 10-29-2003, 10:17 AM This sounds like a great idea Beastmaster. I am happy to hear of the philanthropic nature of this group. As long as work doesn't conflict, I will be there.
I just arrived here on Oahu yesterday and my roadster is being delivered this morning...I'm excited!
See you guys soon.
The Beastmaster 10-29-2003, 12:05 PM Adam,
Make sure you give your baby a good cleaning as the industrial fallout from those container ships can be a biotch to your paint. Glad to have you aboard. Aloha!
IslandS62 10-29-2003, 03:00 PM Welcome Adam! We were wondering when you were going to show up!
thrlls 10-29-2003, 05:59 PM Welcome to the state of Hawaii Adam!
We missed you at the island drive. Hope you can make the poker run....of course I may not be able to :(
Now my baby has a brother!
The Beastmaster 10-29-2003, 06:28 PM Adam,
You should change your location to Kailua, Oahu so we won't think you're in Kona.
ADAM///M 10-30-2003, 01:04 PM Thanks all, I look forward to seeing you all soon. In fact, I was in Kailua yesterday late morning (wednesday) with my roadster and around noon I saw another black m roadster driving by. Could that have been you thrlls? Maybe not....that roadster looked clean! :)

 :biglaughb :biglaughb :biglaughb
thrlls 10-31-2003, 02:22 AM If it was clean and it didn't have 31" A/T tires on it, it wasn't me!
The Beastmaster 11-12-2003, 07:16 AM What is a poker run?
Simply put, I will give each participant a card at each of 5 stops. The first card will be given at Zippys when you ante up. Best hand wins! Of course, if you had a horrible hand, you might not want to continue. So.....the best hand wins 50% of the pot, 2nd best gets 30% and the third best gets the remaining 20%!
IslandS62 11-12-2003, 02:04 PM If you want people to show up we better start putting word out to the club members!
The Beastmaster 11-12-2003, 04:37 PM Postcard sent to the printer this morning.

So that means everyone should get it on the 22nd :D
What about email format to advertise/invite?

No, I spoke to the printer this afternoon and they were printing and mail merging the postcards. You should get it this weekend, maybe even Friday.
As for getting things late, you must be talking about our newsletter editor, not me.:D
I can always send out another e-mail blast, but we do have lots of incorrect addresses. i.e. YOU still have your e-mail address listed w/AOL. Call or e-mail CCA and correct it!;)
thrlls 11-13-2003, 11:24 PM I'm not talking about anyone in particular, just the problem of getting info out on a timely manner. The answer isn't who's fault it is, it's how can we do it better! (no flames intended)
My email should be correct.
Someone ( a Wahine) from CCH called three weeks ago to update the listing.

That stuff is up to the next administration.;) We need more volunteers to help us (me) with this stuff. Everyone likes to participate in the events, but don't like to help out with the other stuff.
As for the e-mail, I hope CCA sends me an updated list as they seem to send me new lists every 3 months.
thrlls 11-14-2003, 03:06 AM I'm here! Give me a call and I'll help with whatever I can, I'm sure the next pres. (JP) wouldn't mine.....????
We could use the experience to weed out what works and what doesn't to improve the club. You will still be on the board correct? Advisor? Editor? Treasurer? V.P.? :D
IslandS62 11-14-2003, 03:24 AM If you need help man all you need to do is ask. About the Poker Run too...I am more than happy to not run and to help you zip around town and hand out cards. Racing to beat us to the next check point by yourself won't be any fun for you!
The Beastmaster 11-14-2003, 04:26 AM I'll still be around. As for the poker run, there is no real running to beat the pack as people will get their cards when I get there. The cards will be dealt from the top. Maybe they'll be shuffled before cards are handed out so people won't think the cards coud be rigged.
Hmmm, racing to beat you guys to the next stop? That actually sounds fun, but I drive the speed limit. ;) Plus, people don't like it when I use the whole road like a race track. Especially the oncoming traffic.
As for the rant, I'm just tired of the dead wood out there that have positions with the club, but do not produce or meet deadlines. Postcards should have gone out this afternoon so you should have them in hand by Friday or Saturday.
The Beastmaster 11-14-2003, 04:28 AM See! I was right about the two of you having the right attitude to be club officers.
thrlls 11-14-2003, 11:56 AM Dead wood is good for BBQ's, have them host a CCH BBQ club get together at Ala Moana Park.
ZZZING 11-14-2003, 11:12 PM Got my postcard today, still not sure if I can make the run
The Beastmaster 11-15-2003, 12:53 AM Aw, c'mon. Diving or driving. Driving is the same, just diving with an R. That's it! Type R diving!
See, I'm a man of my word and get things out by the deadline!
So who's in?
thrlls 11-15-2003, 12:53 AM I stand corrected, I also got my post card today.
And like ZZZING, still not sure if I can make it, but I am still willing to help with anything I can up to that point.
The Beastmaster 11-15-2003, 01:35 AM Aww, c'mon thrlls. Driving take precedence over re-doing a bathroom! Plus, I got new rear tires for McFiver. Gotta see how those Hankooks handle.
thrlls 11-15-2003, 03:00 AM If it was the bathroom, I'd be able to go, but it's work!
The Beastmaster 11-15-2003, 03:30 AM ::cough::cough:: Call in sick, Mr. Michael Roberts. ;)
The Beastmaster 11-16-2003, 10:10 PM Dinan3, are you here?
thrlls, saw the Roadster driving around today, but it didn't look like you driving.
808Cardinal87 11-17-2003, 04:53 PM Not yet. T-Minus 3 days.... I'm flying out Friday morning, will be there in the afternoon. I'm staying at the Hilton Lagoon (the timeshare building that used to be apartments). I'll be out there until Dec. 3rd. I'll send you a PM when I get my computer hooked up.
Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Did you see a 318is behind it?
The Beastmaster 11-19-2003, 03:05 AM Nope, it looked like your wife driving and I didn't notice a 318is behind it. Did you buy one, too?
You better get to bed as you seem under the weather. If you don't get better you have to call in sick on Sunday.
thrlls 11-19-2003, 03:23 AM Well, let's see... If I'm talkin to M. M.... what kind of car does he have?
Anything is possible! Let's just say I bought an accessory for my Porter Cable.
The Beastmaster 11-19-2003, 07:38 AM Who's M.M.?
The Beastmaster 11-21-2003, 04:35 PM 2 days and counting.
thrlls 11-23-2003, 04:51 AM Well, I just got home from work, and it looks like I will not be able to attend the Poker Run with you guys. :bawl I have to go back to work tomorrow and finish the mini move...hopefully it won't be another 14 hr. day!
I'm sure you guys will have fun, just remember to play safe!
thrlls 11-24-2003, 12:38 AM So, isn't someone going to post how great a time they had on the Poker Run?
Who won?
How many entrants? (Mini's vs BMW's)
What was the winning hand?
How dirty did IslandS52's car get?:D
I just got home from work and nothing!
What's up with that!
The Beastmaster 11-24-2003, 01:14 AM Lots of fun.
Dale had the best hand w/ 2 pairs, I had a pair of Aces, John B. had a pair of Queens. The best part was I had the contestants pick my cards for me at the very last deal.
IslandS52s car did not get very dirty as he headed home from Zippys and met us at Sandy's with the Audi.
Total of 7 cars, 4 BMWs, 2 MINIs and 1 Audi.
thrlls 11-24-2003, 01:20 AM I guess I Audi-know that IslandS52 would do something like that.:D
IslandS62 11-24-2003, 02:42 PM Hey! It was raining! At least I showed, I think a lot of folks didn't bother to show due to weather.
Its all good anyway, we got to take Ceasar along :)
Thanks again for organizing another good event Beastmaster.
You and Dale can continue to run these "tours" as you seem to have got the route down pat.

Ahhh! Waimanalo huh??
I bet that was fun!
The Beastmaster 11-26-2003, 06:46 PM Just dropped off the food at the FoodBank and here's the tally. 7 cars and 47 lbs of food! Pretty good for such a small group.
One of the workers was on the truck cruise we saw at Kualoa. He said they do their FB drive in January and usually collect 300 lbs. Of course, that's with a lot more vehicles than we had.
Good job! Next year it'll be even better!
