View Full Version : Japanese GP
CARWRECK86 10-12-2003, 03:08 AM Just finished watching the Japanese GP and i have to say, that was one of the most exiting races i have seen yet. M Shumacher (or however you spell that) took his 6th GP championship officially. Kimmy Raikenen slips out of being the youngest driver to win the championship. Ferrari takes the constructers championship. and BMW slips (again) from its challange against the italian stallion. Post comments please.
sorry edited.:)
JamesM3M5 10-12-2003, 11:02 PM DELETE THIS THREAD, and please enter a new subject line that says "SPOILER" in it so others don't see the results if they haven't watched the race yet.
But otherwise, I agree, EXCITING--it was a real nail-biter!!!

Juan Manuel Fangio will be always the best of the bests :D
MPowerR6 10-13-2003, 11:37 AM Too bad Juan Montoya lost his car. If the car held till the end, BMW would have won the constructor's championship
ken_vs_ryu 10-13-2003, 11:48 AM umm the race has been on twice already! they are not repeating it again. if you haven't seen it you shouldn't be clicking on this thread.
that would've been f'd if a driver with 1 gp win beats out a driver with 6 gp wins for the world championship! are we crowning champions or losers? the points system has to be revised.
the qualifying was f'd too. take away 1 lap qualifying or let the fastest guys pick their slots!
Ron17 10-13-2003, 11:48 AM I didn't like that race for a multitude of reasons:
1) Once Montoya and Alonso went out, there was no real challenging the leader -- Barichello.
2) Since Montoya, who was destroying everyone btw, went out and Ralf couldn't seem to keep his car on the freakin' course, BMW fell out of contention real quick for the Constructors Championship.
3) Raikkonen was my only hope at that point, but he just didn't perform very well. Heck, Coulthard was faster, but held off -- I got the impression he could've gone by Raikkonen if he wanted.
4) I wanted to see anyone but a Ferrari win the race and the championship -- neither of those things happened.
Boooooo!
My favorite thing about the race was that Butten and Sato finished so well. That's was pretty cool.
CARWRECK86 10-13-2003, 01:16 PM yeah too bad about this season. Hopefully next year, BMW will pull it off (constructors and drivers championship). As for Kimmy, i think that he still has plenty of time to be the youngest Champion.
Ron17 10-13-2003, 02:34 PM Yeah, if he wins next year, he would still be the youngest champion ever.
I might start pulling for him next year, for two reasons:
1) My brother pulls for him.
2) I'm not particularly fond of Montoya or R. Schum. as drivers. I pull for them simply because they drive for BMW.Williams.
:dunno
MontoyaWannaBe 10-13-2003, 03:42 PM hes whiney, i think he wishes he was in a ferrari like his big bro
i like 1 lap qualifying and so do most ofthe drivers, it pushes them to be better, to be able to come through in a tight moment, its like the race, you can push as hard as you like but push too hard and its all over
in that way, qualifying is much like the race, its a one shot deal, and the one who can keep it together the whole race and still be the fastest is the one who deserves it... true when it rains mid qualifying it sucks, but thats just chance, and part ofthe sport
as for the points system, true it is unfair to have someone with one win so close to someone with 5 wins at the last race, but that was the whole purpose, it was to bring competition back into F1, hence the reason they're toying with the idea of giving the bottom 6 teams 3 cars next season... wont do much for minardi, but could help out jag and renault
pikachu 10-14-2003, 01:11 AM there should be some extra perk for getting first place. the two points difference is the same from 1-2 and 2-3 so there's nothing special for getting first anymore.
also i think 1-shot qualifying was exciting, but kind of defeats the intent of qualifying. in used to be that qualifying would give teams and drivers the opportunity for demonstrating maximum raw speed. i.e. qualification-special parts, minimal fuel, qualification tires, etc... this way, you really can tell who was the fastest driver, as all the additional complications of a race-distance were not present. i miss this part of qualifying.
