Anyway, what are you worried about? Your car is under warranty, find out and let us know. SDbboy 10-09-2003, 01:16 PM You won't want to run the highest shift mode too often anyway (S6) for most people its too abrupt for normal driving. That being said the clutch wears no more than any other shift mode as the computer perfectly actuates the clutch everytime. Brian butta 10-09-2003, 11:28 PM You prolly shouldn;t have the aggressive mode on all the time, or you will end up in a neck brace :p Kevlar 10-09-2003, 11:39 PM It's fine... i've driven a SMG car in S5/S6 for periods of time, no problem. When you plant your right foot... you find yourself time-warp two carlengths ahead from where you were. But if you have a gentle right foot... it's daily driveable. Now on the opposite end of the scope, I wouldn't drive in A1 or S1 routinely because they use 2nd gear starts from a stop... that must wear the clutch. Clutch replacement is not under warranty, but it is covered by the scheduled maintanence. As a side note you can start from a stop in 2nd in any shift mode, simple shift one gear up while stopped. Brian Kevlar 10-10-2003, 09:01 AM Originally posted by dallasbboy How do you figure that? Brian A1 automatically starts in 2nd gear from what I believe. S1 depends on the driver. Starting in 2nd gear will increase wear on the clutch because you can't just let it out, you have to ride the clutch out longer to get it up to speed before stalling it... It's just like in a manual car. I can start from a stop in second gear but I have to ride the clutch out longer to get it moving. If I start in 1st gear, my foot is off the clutch much sooner. Thats not the way it works, no clutch wear occurs when starting in 2nd. Its simply a higher gear to start from. The clutch is out the entire time until you shift to 3rd. I'll have to try that and see if it works. I don't think it will tho as I've tried in the past, I find I'm on the clutch longer to get the car to move. Croak 10-12-2003, 05:31 PM Kev, I have enough power with my less torquey S50 to do it with no more clutch slipping than I use starting in 1st. I'd imagine an S54 should have no troubles with a 2nd gear start. |
