Rel44 M3 09-10-2001, 11:46 PM Whoa, what happened to that? SeRg M 09-10-2001, 11:48 PM That's a mighty bump you hit there ... is the car as bad as the rim ? Loud_TIGER 09-11-2001, 12:11 AM holy crap.. what'd u hit? those wheels are pretty strong... and for them to get bent up like that fourfa 09-11-2001, 12:16 AM should have clarified... not my wheel. not yet sure what caused it. Scott Yu 09-11-2001, 12:29 AM "Semi-solid forged," according to their marketing blurb. They don't claim the same strength as a true forged rim, but they do say that their process is stronger than casting. I've never tried 'em myself, just thought I'd pass that lil' tidbit along. Originally posted by fourfa don't look too forged to me... fourfa 09-11-2001, 12:41 AM true. the brittle fracture seen here is more like what you'd see in a cast rim, that's all. here's the story: In case you don't know, all the Speedvision World Challenge races have standing starts. What happened was Fitzgerald's Acura Integra started far back on the grid, and on the start he had a good jump and passed a couple of slower cars. What happened next I didn't see, but apparently one of the factory Mazda's tried to pass on the outside of another slower car, clipped Fitzgerald's car in the back, causing both cars to crash into the wall seperating pit road and the front straight. Fitzgerald probably hit the wall around 50MPH, with the wheel taking the brunt of the force. fourfa 09-11-2001, 02:33 AM actually, the more I think about a 50 mph head-on into concrete, the better I think the wheel held up. There are a couple spots of extreme deformation where it didn't just unzip like a cheap cast wheel would. Rel44 M3 09-11-2001, 09:47 AM Hmmm, yes, actually, I think the wheel held up pretty well considering the explanation of the impact. Alex McHenry 09-11-2001, 10:23 AM for a 50mph head on impact into a concrete wall i'd say that's impressive! i JUST had those, now James N from DTMpower is riding on them in his silver E36 M3 (the project car).. they look SWEET on his car! Alex McHenry 09-11-2001, 10:25 AM the 17x8" weigh in at 14.2lbs!!! The Acura REALtime cars and the Turner MOtorsport BMWs are both running the 17" SSR Comps.. so you know they're decent if the two best teams in touring are using them.. 1995red318i 09-16-2001, 07:17 PM NICE!!!! is that the new style? fourfa 09-22-2001, 03:10 AM well, just remember that race wheels for a well-financed team are totally disposable, like tires and brakes. Not the case for me, at least. Bry 09-22-2001, 11:25 PM I like the look of these wheels http://www.bayareamotorsport.com/~jjbk/temp/DSCN0161.JPG http://www.bayareamotorsport.com/~jjbk/temp/DSCN0156.JPG Rel44 M3 09-23-2001, 02:57 PM I'm so-so on the looks but the weight of the rims is compelling. |
