I'm looking to buy a 95 M3 and the seller replied to an email that I had sent asking questions about the car. The car seems to be in really good shape but a couple things concern me and I was wondering if you guys could help me estimate the cost for repair. In his email he states that "There is a slight knocking sound from the right rear, which I would guess to be a bad bushing." Do you guys think this could be a bad bushing and if so how much would it cost to fix? He aslo stated that "there is a slight squeak during a tight turn (full steering lock) on cold mornings, only when I'm pulling out of a tight parking space." What could be the source of this squeak and how much would it cost to fix?

Thanks guys,
Jared

Take the car to a qualified independent mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection and have him examine those problem areas. He'll be able to give you an idea of the repair cost and any other issues he discovers during his inspection.

Yeah, its well worth a pre inspection. You might see if anyone in the regional forums section could check out the car too. Rear thunks are usually either shock mount related or trailing arm bushing related. The squeek in front could be rubbing tires on a loose fender liner or the power steering pump.

Be sure to find out when the water pump, radiator and thermostat housing were changed. If they haven't been, they need to be. They are easy to fix yourself and parts are pretty cheap.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I ask all sellers if the waterpump, thermostat housing and radiator have been replaced as well as what condition the VANOS are.
