View Full Version : BMW Shop Near Charlotte?
///MDex 10-01-2003, 10:45 AM I'm looking for a shop in, around, or within reasonable driving distance (25-50mi?) of Charlotte, NC for factory maintenance work, and minor bolt on mod work as needed (clutch & flywheel install).
Looking through BMWCCA.org as we speak.........
Any pointers?
buckwilly 10-03-2003, 03:55 PM I go to uptown BMW/Mercedes/Jaguar.
The guys who work their have worked on BMWs their whole life.
$70/Hr...they don't rip you off...good guys and they will let you look under your car and explain things to you. They also do clutch installs, transmissionns etc...every mechanic owns a bmw.
I have seen anywhere from M5's to Minis to Z3s to 850's in the shop...I have has about $1000 worth of work done there so far. Been there like 8 times. Mostly for oil changes and all of my repairs when I bought the car used (steering pump, hoses, radiator coolant sensor, tranny seals, etc....)
buckwilly 10-03-2003, 03:56 PM They will isntall anything you want...but they will not warranty the parts....obviously.
///MDex 10-03-2003, 04:35 PM Excellent. Thanks! :clap:
Right now, I'd be interestred in just oil chnages, but eventually will have the LTW FW and M5 clutch. :devillook
count_schemula 10-03-2003, 05:20 PM Oil change is DIY and takes 20 minutes.
buckwilly 10-03-2003, 10:43 PM Not if you live in a apartment complex. ANd you cannot reset your oil light....I used to think changing my oil was cheaper. But now I think it is actually cheaper to go to the Uptown BMW garage. Check it out.
Oil Change: DIY - Oil -$35.00 Mobil 1 at walmart, oil filter -$10, labor to do it (figure in your hourly pay - Mine is $25.00/hr)....
Oil Change at Uptown - $58.00 with Mobil 1, oil light reset and a 48 pt inspection done plus all fluid filled to factory specs.
I chose the second. But I still change my oil to feel cool every other time. Hey whatever you all want to do. Just seems cheaper to me to do the second and I don't have to get dirty.
buckwilly 10-03-2003, 10:45 PM I will also be doing a clutch install there. M5 and LTW fly. They installed my rear brakes for $80.00. I have also done brakes before, I just never wanted to do them again. I don't trust myself enough with an M3. If you go, tell them Cory with the black M3/4 referred you. Maybe they will give me a free oil change?
:)
///MDex 10-04-2003, 08:27 AM Hey Cory. I really apprecaite it. I'm like you. And I didn't even think about the 'reset' issue.
On the weekends, I have more money than time, so a quick trip to a shop that is cost effective, friendly, trustworthy, and professional, gets my money.
:alright
buckwilly 10-04-2003, 09:51 AM No problem. Good luck...and keep your eye out of a M3/4 door almost stock looking except smoked front corners. I will keep my eyes out for your car...there aren't many of those in Charlotte.
Sekurit 10-15-2003, 04:53 PM Where exactly is this Uptown BMW shop located. I looked it up through yahoo, but couldn't find anything. I need to get a few things done to my bimmer also.
AbeM3 10-15-2003, 05:44 PM Doing a reset is so easy, you can't even use that as an excuse! (just did it for the first time the other day, never messed with the lights while I was getting free maintenence!)
MDex, did you get your pullies installed? Your PM box was full and you don't have an e-mail listed from the board. I couldn't contact you.
I've heard good things about a place on the south side of town that advertises in the Tarheel newsletter.. I'll look that up later.
buckwilly 10-16-2003, 08:20 AM I thought the only way you could do the light reset was with the $100 piece of equipment that I have seen on Bavarian Auto site and Ebay. Let me know if there is a "do it yourself" way.
PS- I just did my oil change on my own, I have 1 green light left
...must know secret oil rlight reset trick...

I've cleaned out my PM box now. And Cory, you too, did you guys see my post from the dyno?

I haven't had any time to get the pullies installed, and it doesn't look like I will in the near future also :az: I've started a new project in PA, and will not get home as often. The MC waits for me, sleeping soundly and clean undercover.
I'd also liek to hear about this easy reset process. :)
buckwilly 10-17-2003, 07:51 AM Dex - the dyno numbers are about what I expected. I was wondering what the NSX was getting, and the 430???
How about that turbo camary? LOL.
I am chipping soon, I personally would stay away from the pullies.
AbeM3 10-17-2003, 02:54 PM Alright here we go... check out this link

Look about halfway down the page, there is a pic of PIN 7. I put the key in position II, took a piece of scrap 14g wire and hooked it from pin 7 to a good ground. Leave it there for 10-15 seconds and that's all you need.
It took me about 10 minutes in total to do.. it's not easy to find a good ground, I found mine near the hinges for the hood.
I have a 99 FWIW. Have fun saving time and $$$!
MDex, damn it! I wanted to hear what your pullies were going to do for you... Personally, I keep going forth between doing the cam kit or just say f-it and buy the supercharger from AA.
AbeM3 10-17-2003, 02:57 PM Oh and if anyone cares.. I had very similar results as MDex
buckwilly 10-17-2003, 05:02 PM I gotta get mine one a Dyno. I don't plan on doing much under the hood, might as well get an idea. Thanks for the reset idea...I will try it out and try to find a ground.
Abe: where do you usually run at? I wonder if I have seen you before?
There are so many E36 M3s in south charlotte. :dunno
bokes 10-18-2003, 11:46 PM all you charlotte folk need to have some meets! im in hickory and i would come to some. need to get another bmw first though heh.
buckwilly 10-19-2003, 09:01 AM I'm interested in meeting. I just moved to Charlotte last year. I am always into hitting the track too. Auto-x or drag.
