ok i was driving along... and then
CRACK! bang smack.. grind...

stop...

now one of my belts is cut...
the other belt is off..
my fan is destroyed.. [no blades]
and a hose that goes to my radiator is cut... [small 1/2" hose]

oh yes and a small aluminum shard.. [duno where it came from..] shot into my hood from the bottom.. and there is a small cracked dent...

so here is what im wondering..

should i juz replace the parts and hope there is no other probems or do i NEED to take it to a mechanic...

also im not planning on replacing the fan.. its basicly juz the fan without any blades left on there... so instead of buy a new fan right now.. doing a kinda cheap ass fan delete.. sense we are going into winter

keep in mind im a poor 18yo guy.. i called the dealer and here are the costs
main belt 37
ac belt 17
fan 46

ps.. which belt is longer.. cuz my longer belt is not broken.. juz the shorter.. but they are not attached to the engine any more.. so im not sure which ones which

Sorry to hear that.

That happened to me last year.

You also need a new fan clutch.

That was the source of your fan failure.

The A/C belt is the shorter of the two.

Yep, fan clutch locked up and the fan did 6K rpm. You overreved your fan.

ohhh thank u guyz for the answer to WHY this happend... do u think me going backwards a tiny bit swiftly had somethen to do with the fan failure?

i was backing down a street a lil ways.. and i tapped the gas a lil at the end for a bit of a jump then [scared the girls inthe car...:evil2 ] .. turned to drive the right way

im thinking a fan delete for now ehh? its going into winter and all right...

oh yes

is this an easy fix?

Yes

Oh, also
Going backward swiftly had nothing to do with the fan failure.
But it's probably not a good habit to start:D

I don't think a fan clutch is $200.

Maybe if you shop around.

This is a good time to do the fan delete mod.

I was stranded 300mi from home when mine happened, I wasn't in the mood to try it out.

The fan could've been destroyed by a few things other than just a bad fan clutch.

- The AC belt being thrown off could get wrapped up in the fan
- Bad motor mounts could allow the fan blades to hit the radiator
- Bad water pump bearing could allow the fan blades to hit the radiator

i think.. i know it may have been.... that plastic part that is attached to the radiator was not attached at the bottom..

as in i think it came loose when i backed up somehow.. then i when i went forward it flew real close to the fan and belts to fuck somthen up...

the picture shows how that plastic part attached to the radiator was basicly hinging on the top...

is there anyway to find out if my fan clutch is gone? b4 i blow up another fan on it....

red=radiator
blue=radiator "fan shroud"?
