View Full Version : thinking of getting a 850 theTechnician 09-27-2003, 04:16 AM hey is this a good deal: 91 850i 6-spd 91k miles black with tan interior aftermarket 18in rims. he wants $18k obo for it. so what do you guys think? DGI 09-28-2003, 12:37 AM hope you dont expect it to be trouble free... god bless those 12 cylinder engines theTechnician 09-28-2003, 03:15 AM haha thats y im a technician. i can fix whatever trouble i run into. so back to my question......is it a good deal? zenon 09-28-2003, 12:16 PM check the autotrader, that doesn't seem to be all that bad... the 850i don't sell for all that much, its the CSi and a lesser extent Ci that go for $$$$. One thing to remember is that finding a std is hard with the 850i I'd check it out. TerryY 09-30-2003, 10:24 PM Prices have been falling lately. For that price it should have complete service records, low miles and be real pretty. Look for oil in the water and so forth. Take a run with the AC on full and get it well warmed up. If the temp is over the middle and climbing it probably needs real work $$$$ The V12 seems almost bullet proof if you don't ever overheat it. Look for local references to the "Bay Area 8's" There are a lot of knowlegable folks in several chapters there. theTechnician 10-01-2003, 02:46 AM thanks for the response man, heres the link to the car if anyone wants to see it: http://www.driverspost.com/home/ViewItem.php?ItemNum=376094402 Tony Mack 10-01-2003, 02:33 PM Great Price adn the car looks immaculate. SR20Fastback 10-05-2003, 06:26 AM Oh damn whattup Tim, didnt know you actually registered. Maybe try Roundel the magazine if they have any 8's for sale or maintence advise. -Allan TerryY 10-05-2003, 12:09 PM This is as close as i have found to a buyers guide. http://bimmer.roadfly.org/bmw/forums/e31/forum.php?postid=31276&page=1 zenon 10-05-2003, 12:24 PM wow great link terry. I find http://www.e31.net/ has great NFo but no buyer's guide like that. 99bmw740il 10-13-2003, 04:50 PM love the rims on the car, seems like a good buy Steve@Edge 10-13-2003, 04:55 PM San Jose BABY! 850's sure are the shizit. But maintence... well, like you said... I guess that's why they call you the "technician?" Now see if you can't swap in a 6-speed or something fun like that... then you'd have a true autobahnstormervaggen JAH? Good luck! If you get it, please please please take many pictures. Steve theTechnician 10-14-2003, 03:20 AM even tho i am a tech i dont always have the time to take care of it. so right now im leaning towards a e36 m3 (less maintenece). maybe keep that for awhile and save so i can get a really nice 850csi. and isnt the e36 m3 faster than the 850? i mean stock for stock TerryY 10-14-2003, 08:41 AM Two different worlds there! If you want to be FAST on the street the M3 is a much better choice. |
