Driving home... I see what looks like a Supra ahead of me. I play catchup only to see him making his way to the highway onramp. Thinking oh well... and I continue past him.

Just as I pass him, he pulls back onto the road leaving hte highway. I think, he must be coming for me. Ain't nobody else around.

I hear the turbos spool behind me... I'm thinking, damn, that ain't stock. It sneezes past my passenger window and I make a move to catch up and pull even with him. He looks over and gives me the nod. I drop to 4th... then down to 3rd. Engine is singing at 4500rpms.

He motions me to go... thinking it's gentlemanly of him. I mash the gas. I manage to pull a half car lead. As I'm winding out 3rd... he's pulling by me. As I'm reaching redline in 3rd, his rear bumper is now pulling past my front bumper.

Just as I hit 4th, I hear him bouncing off the revlimiter. I let off 4th as he was still pulling and it was obvious, I just had my ass handed to me.

He slows down, we chat... he says my car is fast, I tell him... thanks, he proceeds to tell me he's stock. I said, ya right. Then he started telling me it's a BPU (who knows what that means). I just know it's fast.

Oh well... I need to drop that supercharged M5 engine into my car. Now what did I do with my AMEX card.

BPU, a Supra guy once told me, is intake & exhaust (cat-back). Helps the turbos spool up much quicker!

BPU Supra - exhaust system (most of the major brand name exhausts are fine)
downpipe with or without high flow catalytic converter (rod millan, speedtek, random technology, stillen, uprd, powerhouse & spp)
ebc or mbc (electronic/manual boost controller), not boost controllers w/ fuzzy logic (e.g.. profec a and hks evc)
fuel cut defenser (greddy bcc - highly recommended by the mkiv.com members. read why hks fcd is the same as the ffcd (using the hks fcd or the ffcd is only recommended if you have the ttc mod and 12v mod)
with the bpu installed, you can expect to obtain approximately 370-410 rear wheel horsepower (rwhp). damn, you gotta love the supra tt!!

I do miss my M3's though...:bawl I would love to pick up another 95 M3 sometime soon...I've seen plenty 95 M3's go ~15k I don't think you can buy a better all around sports car for the $$.

I have both cars,a 98 M3 5 speed and a BPU Supra TT 6 speed ( 424 rwhp) and there's no way an M3 can keep up with a Supra TT period.However since i have quite a few things done to the supra so i really can't comment about the handling but M3 does handles pretty good.

i think there's more to a car than straight line speed. that's not the reason why people buy bmw's. but it's all good.

Damn...410hp would be very very nice... beware of the BPU!

Supreas r very common here in Au ~ coz there all imported 2nd hand from JPN witha round 40,000kms on the clock. and they go for around $15~20k USD depending on non-turbo or turbo models.

give me a M3 any day!!!

I don't think the two should even be compared at all. The differences are so enormous it's just silly. There are many reasons why BMW owners are obsessed with the BMW. Not only do the M cars handle extremely well, but it's the look, the feel, the interior, the fact that there are less on the road, it's German...so many reasons. But love can be blind & ignorance can easily happen.

It's easy to FI an M3 & believe it can take on a Supra TT BPU just cause you are so in love with it you forget. But the Supra TT is an overengineered phenomenon. Unless a guy sinks a ton into a Skyline GTR, the Supra TT potential cannot be beaten.

I bet the 600 club M3 guys have killed a few of the BPU's out there. It must have been sweet as hell! But as for a single turbo Supra...just forget about it. A poor M5 guy got his ass handed to him in a very bad way one night that I know of.;)

as the old saying goes; what is the same between a 500, 700, or 900rwhp supra?

some of you guys just cant get over the fact that a car could be better than yours, yes most admit straight line.. but the stupid comment well get yourself a stage 3 blah blah blah.. Yeah whats that 10 grand for the AA kit and you will run high 12's. 10 grand will get you that single your talking about and run 10's.. BPU supras run low 12's with a good driver. The interior on my Supra is so much nicer than an M3 besides maybe the seats. When you sit in a Supra its like sitting in a cock pit everything is pointed towards the driver. And if I remember correcly an M3 pulls .92 G's stock.. Supra pulls .96.. yeah yours is more of an auto x.. but man give credit where credit is due.. flame away..

Exactly! You just shouldn't compare the two. I have both & there are things I love about the Supra & things I love about the M3. They are just two different animals. I do give huge props for trying though...and mad congrats to the M3 that beats one.

So true about the interior of the Supra, about it being like sitting in a cockpit. Everything is so angled towards the driver. Everything is angled towards the driver in an E36 M3, but even more so in a Supra. Damn, the Supra is an amazing car.

Actually they are aren't all that different, one is a little more luxury concered but what

both 2dr/seats 4
both costed almost 50k new
Supra is on much older technology
Supra pulled a .98 in the skidpad, which I believe is better then the M3
Supra runs approx same quarter as the m3, top end goes the supra
No argument the Supra is cheaper to mod/responds better to mods
Looks/Sound are subjective
M3 takes the cake on class/luxury
Either could be a great daily driver.

With that said if I MKV come's out It would be overwith for the m3, not that it isn't already to many cars in the same price range distroying the m3 figures. Time for a V8, or FI I6

Very nicely done! Although I can argue that the Supra isn't really a 4-seater unless you have 2 really hot little 90lb chics in the back;).

I do feel a HUGE difference when in the cockpit of either car. I know the Supra wraps towards the driver & all but you sit low & have the long & wide front-end in front of you. Maybe it would be the same if I had the same hp in my M3 but the Supra just seems a lot scarier than the M3. Passengers say that it feels like the car is just going to fly off into a wall or something. But I am sure that's just because it has a lot more hp. I mean it feels damn secure for the driver I know that.

Although with the M3 you look from up top & it feels much more secure if the tail slides out. It isn't much lighter so that's kinda weird(regarding the E36 M3). As far as speed the Supra 0-60 & 1/4 is supposed to be quite a bit faster, but throw $1400 at it & you have another 185hp. Then what can you do to the E46 M3? Chip, exhaust... You could turbo an E36 but that is over $11K & for that you aren't adding 185hp no way! AA Stage II is 300-310whp. Add the $1400 to the Supra & get 430whp! :eek:

I still think they are very different animals. Atleast once you open up the opportunity for advancement.
