".............. but I would have killed him in the twisties." How many times have we seen this posted. But, this that is what happened this time.
I had the day off yesterday, so I picked up my brother in Ellijay (which is in the north Georgia mountains). Our adventure for the day was to check out the Tail of the Dragon. I looked at the web site and printed out a map. We crossed the state line into North Carolina, got on US 129 and headed north. We took a left on highway 28 and headed up hill till we got to where it connects with 129 near the Tennessee line. I guess I should have checked the map better because we turned left (east) and found the road to be disappointing. I guess the Tennessee portion is better.
So we stayed on 129 back to Georgia and went over the mountain near Vogel State Park. We stopped at the top of the mountain where the Appalachian Trail crosses. Then we started down the hill. This road is very steep and wide. It has passing lanes in portions of both the up hill and down hill side. And the turns are highly banked. It is a blast!!!
Shortly after starting down I saw a white Mustange GT ahead. It did not take long to catch up with him. He was pushing is pretty hard. On many of the turns he would cross the double yellow line to get a better line on the turn. I stayed in lane. But I was on his tail like glue. I one point I though about passing him when he was in the other lane. But that would not have been a good idea. When we got to an area where we had the passing lane, I moved to the left lane, he stayed right, and I went by him with no problem. I then proceeded to leave him way behind as the M3 was in its element.
I was in 3rd gear going down and only used the brakes for brief periods. When I was behind the Stang I saw him on the brakes a good bit. So I assume he had an automatic.
So, I killed him "in the twisties." I'm sure I would have killed him on the flat roads as well.
It was fun.
