Cars: E34 euro M5 3.8L 340HP, 6-speed vs E46 vert with S54, 343 HP, 6 speed
Location: Peloponisos, Greece (on a deserted highway)

So the project is finished and my cousin's E46 vert is now wearing an S54 with 343 HP. We re on the way to pick up the car (with the M5) and on the way there we re discussing how we re NOT going to race on the way back, blah blah blah.... NOT!!!!

We picked it up and a few minutes later we re on the ramp getting on the highway. I look over to him (I m on the M5) and tell him I m in 2nd...so he picks it up immediately, 3 honks and off we go. The M3 gets the jump on me and he gains quickly 3-4 car lengths. Damn!!!! By the end of 3rd I gain some, by the end of 4th I gain some more, we re on 5th now I m like only 2 cars behind, shift to 6th we re already doing 280....then...290....finally the M5's needle touches the last indication on the speedo....300km/h!!!!! Where's the M3??? I m right on his ass (he's on the next lane over), so I ve closed the gap by over 3 car lenghts.

We slow down and he couldn't believe he kept ahead of the beast (the M5).

Verdict: I did not kill the M3, in fact I was expecting to lose bad since his car must be lighter, but I kept up better than expected.

So we were both surprised :clap:

that is a nice match up... must be mostly the weight difference that ended up with this result.

Yeah also the M5's motor seems stronger up top. Everythime a gear would wind out I d get closer and closer...

Convertables are so much heavier. I bet the same M3 in coupe form would have been a differant story. Very nice cars guys. I love E34s...

Still I believe that in order to keep this thread alive and for others to be able and reply we should stop the 'greek' :)

As for the M5: Once upon a time there was a 518 and an M5. The 518 was very sick, so the nice M5 lady offered all her parts as a good donor. Both ladies stripped down to bare metal (see: chassis) and a new M5 was built...from scratch. Huge project, took a month and a half, two BMW master techs, but the result is better than an original. You simply don't find a better M5 swap out there. Especially while in the car, you hear absolutely NOTHING but the sweet 6-cyl groal...;)

btw, cc (kivika) is NOT a problem anymore in Greece. You can buy any car you want as many cc as you like (as long as it costs 50K euros or less) and not have to worry about tekmirio (see: yearly tax).

Yes this was a new law just passed around 10 days ago. The dealerships already have new (lower) prices, especially on cars over 2.000cc, the savings are tremendous. For example a 330ci, before this new law cost ....(better sit down) around 60K euros, now with the new law, it cost 'just' 49.900, so it qualifies as a 'under' 50K car. That means NO yearly tax (tekmirio) at all!!!
