View Full Version : NOPI Nationals Results
slvr98 M 09-22-2003, 10:54 PM I want to congratulate Nick in placing 1st place in the non-M conservative class, that car was awesome. Good job Nick. Also would like to congratulate all the rest of the winners as well. I placed 3rd in the conservative M class.
The problem I see with NOPI and BMW's is that you have alot cars that are competing together that should not be. The E30 M3's are competing with the E46 M3's, the E30 non M's are competing with E46 non M's. Not to say there werent enough BMW's to break them down even further but there were. Thery were not only in the BMW section, but scattered throughout the entire area. I feel that there were alot of deserving cars there that should have placed.
Another problem is that the NOPI judges dont recognize a car that is tasteful. There was a black Z3 there with a body kit, fake rotors, stickers in the trunk, etc. The car was actually white before he painted the whole thing black with a gold racing stripe. Well that gentleman placed 1st. At Bimmerfest he wouldnt even be looked at.

NickRD 09-23-2003, 09:43 AM Thanks Kendall :) Congrats to you as well my friend! I still can't believe how clean your car is with no dings/dents and you drive that thing w/ 600Hp!! hehe...
Yea, I agree as well with the BMW classes like you said..But I would assume that they would have to then restructure the entire show classes that way and instead of 444 they had, it would end up like 1000 or so!
But still I've had a great time my 2 yrs attending and it's not all about the winning, its the people and cars that make it worthwhile IMO :)
neilm3 09-23-2003, 09:47 AM Congrats to both of you
haha, that z3 got first? I should have entered.
dapper83 09-23-2003, 10:11 AM Nick that was a real clean looking car i should have parked in the inner field vs the parking lot oh well. Yeah that z3 was so ugly with those fake rotors...
slvr98 M 09-23-2003, 12:51 PM Yeah maybe next year I will put some fake rotors and a honda civic body kit with a racing stripe going across the car with flames down the sides just to see what award I get for that. Probably best of show.

LED washer nozzles to warn upcoming traffic that you're fast and curb feelers for those fikse's are what you need Kendall, i'll help you install them.
rwindleyme02 09-23-2003, 03:08 PM LED washer nozzles... Nooooooo!
;)
slvr98 M 09-23-2003, 11:30 PM Yep LED washer nozzles is what he had that went in sequence with the strobes he put into his rear lights that were stenciled "Z" on the left light and "3" on the right one.

I agree 100%!
I placed 2nd in the M Conservative class. I had the Titanium Silver E46 M3. With the mods you have on your car, you should have beaten me IMO! I didn't get a chance to talk to you, but NICE RIDE!!! 600hp?? HOLY SHIT! Do you happen to know who got 1st in our class? I would like to see a picture of the 1st place winner in our class. I hope like hell it isn't some car that looked like that Z3 did. Oh my werd...
Anyways... Congrats!

Werd! I think the fellowship amongst car enthusiasts is the most important / enjoyable thing about showing. I could care less about that dinky little $4.95 trophy they gave me! It's always nice to talk to people who enjoy and appreciate cars.
I got a kick out of people pointing out things on my car to their buddies and calling it the wrong thing or brand. One guy told his buddy I had the ACS Carbon Fiber interior trim. He was wrong, mine came from CarbonWorks! Hahaha! Good stuff...
slvr98 M 09-24-2003, 02:22 PM Hey Zmaerd, Congratulations on your win:buttrock , I figured you would have taken 1st place, your car is awesome. Thats the look I would do if I had that car. Yeah Im sorry we didnt get a chance to talk.
What car actually took 1st place in the M conservative? I looked on the website but could'nt place the name with the car. Maybe they will setup the website to link a picture with the name next time.
Yeah I too wondered why the Z3 was even in our section, man that thing was ugly. And worst of all he parked right next to me. What did I do to deserve that.
Nick I feel the same way, it was great being amongst a group of enthusiasts that appreciated BMW's, the trophy was great for the hard work but I mostly enjoyed talking to people and answering questions. It was funny though that some BMW owners there didnt know much about the kind of car they had. Oh well, not everyone's a Bimmer junkie. I need therapy.
ARCpolo 09-26-2003, 04:17 PM You are speaking of NOPI here, would you have expected more from the judges??
alfatech 09-26-2003, 06:16 PM nopi isn't about what mods you have or how clean or proper your car is, its about HOW MANY you have
woo woo. I'm going to put one of those whistle tips on my car next year and enter. How much does it cost to enter anyways?

I have to disagree with that statement. If that were true, I shouldn't have won 2nd in my class becuase there were others that had a lot more mods than I did. Judging can be a touchy subject, I for one think they should definitely take into account how clean a car is. Cleanliness is very important IMO.

Yea, what sucks is that at all the other import car shows (HIN/IX/IREV, etc etc), you have the ability to give a speech about your car and tell the judges the mods you've done and what's unique to set you apart from other similiar cars.
The lady judge at NOPI said that I could talk just as long as she could keep moving around the car as I talked. I said fine and gave my usual speech, but very rushed.
They just give a glance over and move on since they have to judge 3800+ cars in one day. So I do think if it's a clean car, it doesn't matter how many mods you have it seems at NOPI..
So I was a little discouraged because I was rushed, but I guess ended up ok...Because all the judges at import/car shows have no idea what mods on my car are one-of-a-kind of unique only to E46 sedans...
But oh well, life goes on..hehe

That is so true! I'm not saying I don't think mods are important, because they definitely are. However, I feel it's more of a thing about how you've used those mods and how well they flow together in creating the uniqueness of your car. Given the fact that anybody can bolt things on, if one car has a similar/same amount of mods than another, but the other one is cleaner, who should win? My vote would always be for the cleaner of the two if I liked the overall appearance of both.
I'm sure the judges have no idea what's different from the factory on 90% of the cars they look at. Nick, you have the right idea though. Having a display that details everything you've done to your car is a plus. That way, even if a judge doesn't know something is different, you have a list there in front of them to give them an insight as to how much you've done to your car.
