ok.. ive heard the complaints of stiffness on the e36's.. but is it the same opinion for the 5 series? i have a set of bilsteins.. and im going to purchase some H&R springs for sure.. should i just sell the bilsteins and buy koni adj's??

that was my set up with my ///M3.. its a whole different car though..

any thoughts??
thanks

I have planned Koni adjustables w/H&R springs and partly b/c of my roomate's Bilstiens on his M3. It's rough! I just figured that with the adjustables, I could tune the ride better and not be stuck with a stiff ride. Unfortunately, I'm in the same situation as you and don't know anyone with a 5er that has bilstiens...

I would say if you can get your money back on the bilstiens, sure, go ahead and get the Konis instead. Just my opinion though. :)

I have Bilsteins with BavAuto springs and 17" wheels on my E34 540. The ride is a little harsh. Actually it gets pretty decent when loaded down with 3-4 people in the car. Otherwise it's a little firm. Supposedly the BavAuto springs were close to stock ride with a lowered ride height. I don't really know if adj. shocks would make much difference. Looks good, the ride isn't.

i would probably pay a little more and get the koni adjustables.

After telling you not to get the bilstiens... I may want them! Haha... J/k. The coffers are empty for now. I must focus on my next goal, M-Parallels. :)

Koni adjustables with H&R's are the perfect ride for the E34 IMO, too bad it wasn't low enough for my taste.

btw I have a set of H&R's (w/ 12k miles) for sale

well the billsteins came with the car when i bought it.. (uninstalled w/15k on it.) so i was just gonna put them on w/ the h&r's.. how much for the H&R's by the way Phatparm?? if youre local, i will pick them up.

i have a set of intrax springs that also came with the car.. ill sell those for cheap!

hey rob.. i also got hooked up on some yokohama tires.. the rears are 275's.. do you think its too big for 18x8.5's?? if it'll work, im gonna use it. i called a local rim store, and they said there shouldnt be a problem w/ the e39.

decisions decisions!!
thanks guys

also!! i was gonna go with the 19" bbs rg-r's .. but god damn!! theyre expensive.. even at my cost =T not to mention the damn tires!!!

so im goin 18's since i got hooked up on tires.. i hope they fit w/o a problem...

so you guys with 18's on your 5'ers.. are you happy with them?? or do you wish you would have gone bigger??

i wouldn't mind having another inch. :D

hmmmm... 275's on an 8.5" wide rim is probably stretching it. i would check on the tire forum. i think that size is more suitable for 9.5" or 10" rears.

btw... phatfarm's h&r's are for an e34, so i don't think those would work. :)

I have had Bils in my M3 with H&R springs and the car road fine. The only reason I changed to Koni's was because of the spring perch height difference. The Koni's made the front of my M3 a 1/2" to3/4" lower than the Bils.

This is true with the E39's. Bils are great struts and the ride quailty is good also but if you want your car low in the front then go with Koni's

hmmm~ ive had konis on my M3.. but i got them b/c of ride comfort issues.. i wasnt aware that konis made the front end lower..

that makes me wonder now.. b/c i want the car low.. but nothing like like a "race" drop.. damn this new info.. just when youve figured everything out for the m3.. you have to start all over again with a 540.. =T

its all good though.. live and learn right? =)

yea, some people call it "the bilstein rise".

Aren't single adj Koni's rebound only?

This means that the rebound stroke can be made soft or firm, not the compression stroke. Wouldn't the compression stroke be the one you want to adjust for a "softer" ride?
