Ran with an Impala SS Today..

Was coming down one of the main streets in my town at about 30 mph when an Impala turned out behind me and blew past me.

I caught up to him and matched speed with him at about 50 mph... he saw me and we both hammered it.

His torque pulled him away from me quickly but his power band seemed to drop off toward his higher RPMs. I regianed a lot of distance quickly but then he started to pull on me again, but not as noticably as the first time. He had about 2-3 lengths on me by the time we hit 90. He shut it down to turn into a side street and I slowed down with him.

I gave him a thumb up before he turned which he returned.

Chevy did a nice job with the blower on that car.

No clue...

I'm surprised he didn't do better considering we weighed the same and he had 100 lbs of torque on me.

You mean the late 90's Impala SS a la Darth Vader? Those came with a 350 LS1 making 260 HP and 350 TQ. There was never a blower on this model. They were fairly heavy but quick from a roll. I think you would have done much better from a stoplight run...anyway nice run...you have a sweet car.

Actually I think it was one of the brand new SS's with the supercharger.

Oh the new ones...sorry. Yeah the blown 3.8 litre 6 makes 240 HP and 280 TQ....not bad at all. But it's still one of the fugliest cars on the road :(

Only the very newest Impala SS' can be had with the blower, they just came out with that...

that is an interesting car...... hmm.....

Yep, they just introduced the new Impala SS which has the 3.8 S/C. It is FWD auto. Very similar to the Grand Prix GTP, but heavier.
They can run high 14's stock, and high 13's with some cheap bolt ons.

I used to like Impalas. The older ones I mean with the real drivetrain:buttrock They were beasts. The new ones are ugly, fwd, 6-cyl.......ugh...no thanks.
