View Full Version : specs on the e30 m3
im looking to add another bimmer to the family, and right now i got my eyes on an e30 m3 up in PA. i looked at car-stats.com but i doesnt seem right that the e30 does a 15.4 1/4 mile. so im wondering if you guys could help me out a little with all the specs and details about this car.
i.e - performace specs, safety specs, standard and optional features
thanks a lot!!:buttrock :)
markr325is 09-21-2003, 09:16 PM why are you looking for an e30 M3?
If you aren't going to track it, autocross it, race it, or appreciate it for the racing icon it is i wouldn't even bother. If you are judging just by specs, you should look somewhere else. Where the e30 m3 shines isn't raw performance, but the driving experience. I have an e30 325is and i know it can run 15's with its 168 stock hp. I've run with e30 M3's before and they can keep up to about 70 then pull away after that easily.
the e30 m3 is an absolute blast to drive, and money no object, still one of my favorite cars. you will be disappointed if you are looking for a cool looking straight line performance car. but if you are a driving purist, then this is definitely the car for you. It is an excellent autocrosser, DE car, and club racer.
i know it has 192 hp w/ about 170 lbs of torque and weighs about 2800.
they all come fully loaded w/ power everything, leather, OBC, sunroof, etcs.
90's and up have airbags, but i personally would prefer a pre -90 just to get a MOMO.
these cars are not cheap to maintain-more expensive than an e36 M3.
did i mention, fun to drive?
:stickoutt
there are few cars where you can correct mid turn near the limit with the steering and/or throttle with confidence.

mrsha007 09-23-2003, 08:32 PM yes, the specs arent important on the m3, its the size of your smile that counts.

you did a swap? ive been t hinking hard about doing that, because i dont have time to auto-x and theres not any place near me to do so:( atleast like an hour or two away...but how is it working out for you? theres this cd in bmpd which gives you step-by-step instructions and everything you need basically to do it yourself...i might look into that. i know its kinda looked down upon to swap motors with an e36, but i havent directly talked to anyone thats gotten it done.
mrsha007 09-25-2003, 10:19 PM stu has something called a father, he builds BMW motors :), he doesnt need help. lol. stu, you know whats better than a 250 whp 24v? a 250 whp 16v :)
zenon 09-26-2003, 12:24 AM so, stu has an S52?
motoyen 09-26-2003, 01:33 AM Why bother buying an E30 M3 if you are going to swap out the engine? Why not just get an E36? If you want some good reading click on my site.
mrsha007 09-26-2003, 03:00 AM no, stu has a m50, his borther has a s52.
as moyten said, dont buy a m3 and take outt he perfectly good s14. go look into another car if thats what you want to do. unless you find a chassis w/out a motor.
Stu has a 316d :) It is actually a 318iS that he is swapping pretty much an E36 M3 motor with some cams in. Looks pretty cool!
Spliff 09-27-2003, 02:49 PM So what's the story on E30 M3's from a reliability standpoint? I was looking around for cars this morning and just saw a white 88' M3. I need to call the owner for mileage and other info, but generally how are these cars mechanically? The body seems to have normal wear and tear, very slight rust around the license plate, and the fenders are a little loose, and normal leather wear, but I don't care about that stuff, I just want the thing to work.

from what iiii've heard, maintanence is a bitch. and it costs more than the e36. and on top of that, the things start to break around 90-100,000 miles. but thats just what ive heard..thats whats keeping me from buying one right now because i already have an e36...
im not really up for spending even more money fixing an e30
mmark. 09-28-2003, 08:37 AM I own a 147k mile track rat/ daily driver.
You take care of it, and it will take care of you.
If you haven't owned an UrM3 don't slag it.
