Dang that chick who's driving the red one just drove it over the curb and onto the sidewalk area! :D What size rims are those anyway? Doesn't that hurt it's offroad abilities?

Stockman

I think even BMW says it has no real offroad capability
its designed for the road.. novel idea..

I know plenty of people that HAVE gone off roading with their X's with no problems, so I dont know.

I know they've done offroad testing in some of the car rags with the X5 and it's completed the testing fine. Don't know though.

Heh, when you recieve your X5 upon purchasing it, you recieve a video of how to operate your X5........well, my mom got one at least, but on the video there are some sweet shots of an X5 plowing through the sand on some off-road course

Then of course, that guy bleed to death in the back seat. Wonder who cleaned that mess up ;)

I have seen cop cars go through corn fields... doesnt say much..

and the car pretty much fell apart by the end of the movie...

it may be able to go off the paved road... but I highly doubt it could do any medium offroading - its not really built for it.. its designed for the street.. so keep it that way

I have seen plenty of X's OFF ROADING too the full extent in still photos and video with NO problem, they are capable of this, and it is shown in the X5 features and operation video. :D

Here is what BMW says:

Is the X5 meant for off-road driving?

The BMW X5 is specifically engineered for the needs of active lifestyles. It features all-wheel drive, advanced traction systems, and a robust design that includes integrated skid plates for occasional use on poor roads. The X5's suspension and ground clearance are optimized to perform superbly on all road conditions, rather than off-road.

Preppy

Yeah, we know the X5 was not meant for off-roading, hell, if I ever saw somebody do it, I would get and slap them (or slap myself in my car like BC :D) but then again, some people feel the need to take it off-road b/c they think the X5 is an SUV (although it's classified as an SAV)

Katt
09-09-2001, 12:00 AM
ok well thats all well and good , but I still have seen what I have seen, so whatever people that own this car, want to do with it is no business of mine, would I ever take mine truley off roading, hell no, but like I said others have.

I'm not doubting you for one moment Katt, ya I do agree with ya, I would kill my dad if he took my mom's x5 off road.....

Although we are going to take it up into the mountains during the winter, the AWD will help out :D

Getting back to the 20" and 22" rims, how much do tires go for something that size? And who makes them? Just curious.

DeezBMW
09-09-2001, 03:18 PM
Toyo makes a set of tires for those. I think Nitto does too. I am not sure what they cost though. The 22s run around $900 each for silver so I would Imagine the tires are over $300 a piece. I think it looks tight as hell though. I saw an Escalade with 22s on it. Damn did it look good!!!

Hope too see you next Sunday as well , I will be there to do it all again, take care.
