I just heard on ESPN radio that he will have a specially set up BMW to race at the European Touring Car race this weekend. What is the point?

The point for him is to continue with what he loves to do regardless of his situation. I can't believe you actually asked that question.

I didn't mean to be disrespectful, but after such an horrific and tragic accident, I think he should just be on the sidelines either by running a team or teaching racing techniques. I enjoyed seeing him kick ass in CART and was disappointed he didn't do better in F1. He should just sponsor an up-and-coming driver as opposed to taking a spot on the grid. It is obvious he loves racing, but I think it is time to hang it up....

Why? In testing, he's been running competitive lap times. Why should he hang it up if he can still compete? He's one of the greatest drivers of our lifetime, and he's experienced one of the most horrific accidents any driver could imagine, but he still has the drive to get back out there and compete. I say HELL YEAH! Way to go Alex!

Glenn,

Zanardi is probably faster now than most of us will ever be. So should we all give up driving?

Wow, I hope this isn't how you look at life? My brother got hit by a drunk driver which almost took his life. He spent several months in the hospital and the very first thing he did when he recovered, was getting his club racers license. I remember when his doctor was signing his release form for club racing, the doctor asked him "Why would you want to get back in a car after the accident you just had? Especially to go racing." and his answer was "Life is way to short to give you what you enjoy". I bet Alex would probably tell you the same thing!

Glenn,

You're not familiar with the concept of good PR, are you?

I bet both BMW and Alfa Romeo were clawing at the bit to try and get their cars prepped for him.

I think this is very cool. I give him credit for being a great driver, and even more for getting back on the horse, so to speak.
