View Full Version : Global and United SUCK!!!!!!!!
Sparc_it 09-15-2003, 04:18 PM Ok, took my car in for it's inspection 1 today at United in Roswell
First, my service advisor stepped out for lunch 5 min before I got there....it's not like he forgot, my name was posted on the service board under his name.....that got me a lil annoyed.
Second, when I made my reservation I requested a loaner because I had to go to class, he (my service advisor who took my reservation said "no problem, we'll have ya set up) NEVER put it in the system that I requested one...hence, no car. So instead they said we have a Toyota....can't say no, I needed a car. I told the guy who helped me (was very courteous...at least) that I wanted to talk to my guy as soon as he got back. He said no problem I'll have him call you...
Third, they said it would take 3 hours tops....we are going on 4 hours and they close in an hour, still no call
When I get a hold of someone...either my advisor (THE FUCKING ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER) or the service manager, I am going to tear them a new one, I can't stand being treated like this. If I wanted to get treated like some insignificant kid i woulda bought a civic and saved $20,000.
I was treated the same way at Global....same thing happend...OOPPS we dont have a loaner...take a Sentra instead. Not to mention they had my car for a week and a half and never called to give me updates...I always had to call and left a message because my advisor was never there. When BMW called and asked to rate the service 1-5...they got a 1 and I told the operator to give them a 0 if all possible

G. P. Burdell 09-15-2003, 04:27 PM In all fairness...in five years of taking my car to Global Imports for service, I have only twice received a BMW loaner car.
The first time I got a BMW loaner was just after I got the car, to have a couple of scratches touched up and keyless entry/CD changer installed, and the other time was a year later when my car was in their shop for 2 days with tranny problems. All of the other loaner cars I've received from Global have been rental cars through Enterprise.
Sparc_it 09-15-2003, 04:29 PM Try 330ci to 2003 BASE Toyota Corolla
fpa1974 09-15-2003, 04:51 PM Just curious... Who was your service advisor? If you do not want to say it here PM me.
Thanks,
Florian
BimmerDawg 09-15-2003, 06:22 PM Two words...
ATHENS BMW
You won't get that with us, I'll make sure of it.
varsity 09-15-2003, 06:27 PM if Athens is too far (but then again, nothing is too far to help out your Bf.c buddies :) )why don't you try Chris? They've been really good to me, always given me BMW loaners, always done a very good job.
punknamedjimmy 09-15-2003, 07:10 PM my dad always went to united and they always let him pick what loaner car he wanted (he just told them he was considering trading in his car and wanted to drive on :biglaughb )
i remember he brought home an e46 330ci one time, was sweet as hell but he wouldn't let me drive it (only had permit at time)
Sparc_it 09-15-2003, 10:53 PM yeah, i was hoping to get an X5 cuz united at roswell has been giving those out....but nooooo fucking corolla
DocWyte 09-15-2003, 11:14 PM Dude, you got a FREE loaner car! Who gives a F what the hell it is. It's not like you're taking it home for 6 months or something. It's just to get you to and from the dealership. Be thankful they got you a loaner at all, most dealerships take your car and point you in the direction of the rent a car place, where not only do you end up in a shitbox, but you also have to PAY for it.
BTW, almost every dealer, tuner, mechanic shop I've ever dealt with has NEVER called me concerning my car. I've always had to call them, so I guess that's just par for the course. They have too much shit going on to call me...

Try 328i (which, in 1998, was comparable to today's 330ci) to base Dodge Neon or Chevy Cavalier ratboxes. I got these cars as loaners on separate occasions. But I didn't complain, because I knew I was getting free transportation.
DocWyte is right. Be thankful that you got a free loaner car of any kind. You can also take advantage of Global's free shuttle service to/from your office if you're reasonably close.
EDIT: I almost forgot. There's also Hank Aaron BMW in Union City, south of town. I've been there and met one of their sales managers, and it looks like they run a good operation down there.
punknamedjimmy 09-16-2003, 08:40 AM next time just listen to what my post said.
take your car in and tell them 'i'm interested in trading in my car and getting XXX but i'd like to to take one with my while my cars in the shop to see how i like it'

When I take my car somewhere that has loaner cars for the purpose of what I am doing, I do EXPECT a loaner car. That's what they are there for. Especially when you make your reservation and they ask you if you need a LOANER car, not a RENTAL. Wouldn't you be upset if this is the second time this has happened? I said I needed one and it was like the advisor was never listening. That's why I take my car to these places so not only do I have a car to drive, but a BMW.
325Driver 09-16-2003, 03:02 PM Better a loaner than no loaner at all. How about having to call up to a MONTH in advance for a service appointment to ensure a loaner at Momentum in Houston. Yes you did get stuck with a Toyota, but I was stuck with riding the VW Eurovan back home driven by a technician who couldn't speak English and who smelled terribly.
atlantaM3 09-16-2003, 06:17 PM should have called me. I would have done the work in the evening or on the weekend, and you could have watched it being done.
I never understand why people take cars to dealerships for service, they cost way too much, and usually the tech is only 1/2 competent in what he is doing. Hence the reason we are opening a shop.
James
fpa1974 09-16-2003, 10:07 PM It took a while for me to understand that. Basically if you still have warranty and the problem is expensive to fix you can go to the dealer. Otherwise it does not make sense too much. Especially when you have someone you trust that can do the work (e.g. James :))
My experience with dealers was very disappointing but it took a few bad experiences to understand that. I always thought that the dealers have the best people available and do good work. Well for me it turned out that it is for from being true.

blubimmer 09-17-2003, 12:42 PM i know nothing about united, but global is the laughing stock of bmw dealers. they don't know which way is up.
they lose cars, keys, can't ever figure out who your service advisor is (even when you tell them who it is, that person says it's not them, it must be some other guy) when you call for an update that they can't give you anyway, they rolled a huge tool chest into my dad's 740iL and did a lot of damage. their "loaner car" situation is hillarious. I think they might have 2 loaner BMWs if they're lucky. Last time my dad took his car in there for an alternator they screwed him on the core (long story, but it's because they don't listen/are stupid) and lost the jack to his car.
never again will I step into global.
atlDinan3 09-18-2003, 09:25 AM Global is the most horrible place on the face of the earth. I can see it from my house and if it wasnt such a crime these days then i'd probably blow it up with a shoulder mounted missile!! (haha just kidding mr Fed man, dont start a file on me...)
Anyway, I will throw out the recommendation of the Bimmer Store. I have found their service to be EXCELLENT. Their service techs are all ex-dealer Master Techs who were tired of the BS and yadda-yadda. They do fantastic work for about 25% less than the dealer. Additionally, their facility is much more 'personal' in that you can meet the tech that works on your car, ask him questions before & after the job, and even watch him work (if you feel like sitting on the ground standing outside the service bay all day).
Sound silly but one thing I like about the Bimmer Store is that a) the same tech always works on my car, and b) said tech is a german guy, complete with accent. I know its stupid, but there is something very soothing about hearing my (car) issues explained to me in a strong german accent. He could be making up technical words and I'd still go home a happy customer.
Oh yeah, and they give free loaner cars for ALL service work done. Yes they are crappy-ass for Tauruseseses, but those of us who dont have new model bimmers sometimes have a tough time getting a loaner from the dealers. The bimmerstore however will give anyone who asks for one a loaner - even if you are just in for an oil service. Very professional...
Just my $.02...
Sparc_it 09-18-2003, 10:43 PM I disagree with The Bimmer Store, i bought 2 cars there. One had a new problem every 2 weeks since the day i bought it. Service and sales person where helpful at first, but each time I brought it back they were less inclined to help. If they actually did the inspections like the tag said when I bought it I wouldnt have had all the problems......at 60,000miles when i took it for service at an independant shop....the original fuel filter from the factory was still on it...with paint overspray and all
atlDinan3 09-19-2003, 09:25 AM I wont comment on the sales people at the bimmer store... However I think service is a different story... once you find a good tech, stick with him and you will be happy. Thats whats working for me.
Also, the only waiver I will give Global is that their PARTS guys kick ass. They are nice, know their stuff and are generally cool as shit. They are the exception...

I rarely take my car to Global for service anymore, but I get almost all of my parts from them. Jon, Colin, Brandon, and Erik are the best!
Sparc_it 09-19-2003, 12:04 PM Any discounts on parts?
G. P. Burdell 09-19-2003, 12:05 PM 15% off if you're a BMW CCA member. :D
BimmerDawg 09-19-2003, 01:31 PM Come see me at Athens BMW. We are MUCH cooler than them. :suave
G. P. Burdell 09-19-2003, 02:43 PM You may be cooler, but Global is less than a mile from my office, and I can't justify taking a 3-hour lunch to visit you whenever I need an oil filter. :)
