View Full Version : Whoo-hoo I'm alive...RIP 2482248 (I joined the club)
Leif E. Bronn 09-15-2003, 11:52 AM Georgie and Aaron, my car looks worse than both of yours.
I was driving to visit one of my best friends in Miledgeville, Ga when I stopped to get gas. As I slowed down I looked in my rearview mirror and see a passenger van the next thing I know I'm walking through a parking lot. I was going about 10 MPH and the Van was probably going about 70 MPH. My car spun around into the ditch flipped over, I was knocked unconcious when I was hit so I was stuck in the car. Luckly someone at the gas station grabbed a knife and cut my seat belt and pulled me out, as soon as he got me out of the car the engine caught on fire. The fire was put out very quickly which is good because the gas line that runs through the car broke and the gas take was ruptured. After I got cleaned up and checked over by the EMS I went outside and saw what was left of my car. I bought a camera and took some pictures before I was rushed to the hospital. After waiting in the emergency room for 6 and a half hours I got checked out again and was able to go home. I had a mild concusion and a few cuts and scrapes, not to mention my arms are extreemly brused and I have very bad whiplash. The thing that pisses my off the most is I couldn't find one of my shoes so I was stuck out of town with one shoe. Also my keys were stuck in the door. The only things that I could find were the rearview mirror, the shift knob and the emergency light button. I also saw in the pictures that my tool box from the trunk was about 20 yards away from the car.

count_schemula 09-15-2003, 12:24 PM Damn.
Stuck out of town with one shoe! That's funny. Could have gone to the grocery/drug store and bought some $1.99 flip flops.
Glad your ok, sorry about the 2002 loss. The beater is beat.
PS Your yahoo pics are maxed. No more views.
Leif E. Bronn 09-15-2003, 12:43 PM I getting someone to host them right now...It should be up later tonight.
MGRMLN 09-15-2003, 12:57 PM sorry to hear of your loss.
glad that you're ok.
that's all that matters.
Bremsen 09-15-2003, 01:59 PM That sucks Leif. Glad to hear you weren't severly hurt.
Guess the widebody project is moving up on the "to do" list.
Micah D. Cranman 09-15-2003, 03:05 PM Leif, as I said on the phone, holy shit. I'm just glad you're ok, my man. E-mail me the pictures and I'll put 'em on the ol' webserver.
Ron17 09-15-2003, 03:08 PM Leif,
Very glad to hear that you're OK. Sucks about the car for sure, but I'm quite sure that you're realizing that cars are replaceable -- life is not.
Serious accidents tend to give you that perspective like nothing else can.
BKarktic328i 09-15-2003, 03:17 PM Holy shite man... Glad to hear that your alive to tell us about it.... I was in an accident similar to yours, and came out about the same... just sore for days.:(
xvxax 09-15-2003, 03:21 PM I can host pictures if you send them to bmxbikzz@cox.net I'd like to see them. Sorry about your loss.

whew, thats a lot of pics. Man that looks almost as bad as Ron's. You are lucky!
neilm3 09-15-2003, 04:04 PM OMG, I'm glad your ok. Sorry to hear about the car but I'm sure it's replaceable. I can't believe you walked out of there with just a mild concussion.
Ron17 09-15-2003, 04:09 PM The roof is definitely in worse condition than mine -- far more caved in. My roof was different in that the A and C pillars were SHEARED at the roof, which made it sink down into the car.
You're back end is really messed up, whereas my impact was in the side, so the back took indirect damage.
Of course, your sides looks good, compared with mine. My driver side is almost unrecognizable as a car.
All in all, both of us are lucky to be alive still, it would seem. You apparently have a purpose to fulfill.
tabasco 09-15-2003, 04:22 PM WOW!!!! That is amazing that you are still alive! Seeing those picture makes me feel a whole lot better about driving around in a BMW! Glad you're still here!
Jason
Ron17 09-15-2003, 04:40 PM It's one of the best-kept secrets in the entire automotive industry, but BMWs are actually THE safest cars on the road. Forget Volvos -- that's a bunch of propaganda and hype. Forget Mercedes -- they have somewhat fallen off of late.
BMW is the current industry leader in car safety. Through my own experience, Geordie's experience and now that of Leif, I have learned that these cars will do a superb job of protecting its occupants to the very end. It gives me a better feeling about driving one and makes me wonder if I'll end up buying used ones for my children when the time comes.
Consider me a happy customer.
Leif E. Bronn 09-15-2003, 04:59 PM Thanks for all the kind words everyone. Here is a link to all the pics...

The widebody kit isn't moving up yet because now I'm saving for a M3.
Aaron you're right, after the accident I didn't care about the car at all I was just happy to be alive and I have been in a great mood since then (except I hurt like hell).
Micah, don't follow the tradition and total your M3, it's not fun and I don't want to have to kick your ass:)
BimmerDawg 09-15-2003, 06:20 PM Damn, Leif. I can't believe that happened. I'm glad to see you're okay. Like I've said since mine and Aaron's wrecks, these are the safest vehicles on the road.

first time i think i've ever said this in my life but...
LMFAO
that sucks about the accident, glad you are doing okay but dude that picture i sfunny as hell
Micah D. Cranman 09-15-2003, 10:11 PM Leif does have a purpose to fulfill: getting me out from under this insane workload. I'm slowly giving him more and more responsibility for the forum promotion of M3 motorwerks -- soon, you guys won't see TOO much of me here on BF.c. (Ok, so you don't see that much of me now except when I post specials).
Oh, and Leif -- I'm NOT totalling my car. I've been driving like a grandmother (on crank) since I got my priviledges back. Seriously, I'm rather conservative.
Although, Road Atlanta IS next weekend. :devillook
Leif E. Bronn 09-15-2003, 10:15 PM Thanks Geordie, I'm looking for a 95 M3 if you come across one.
Jimmy, I took some funny pics of me and the car so when I see them I won't be too depressed about losing my baby. I have some funnier ones that I'll post when I get them developed.
punknamedjimmy 09-15-2003, 10:19 PM sweet i can't wait for them to get posted!!!
truely sorry bout your loss though.
i almost got owned by a honda prelude today. people ahead of me slammed on their brakes (about 3 cars ahead of me) when they realized they had to take a left hand turn. i stopped close to the car in front of me but not so close that i thought i was going to hit them. all the while looking in my rear view mirror and saying 'that guy isn't going to stop'. i was bracing myself for the impact/ getting ready to put it in park and be angry (i would have hit hte car in front of me if i was hit)
at the last second the guy realized that we were stopped, luckily their was a huge shoulder that he swerved into. by the time he was stopped he was litearlly beside me. i looked over at him and shook my head. that woulda fucking sucked.
nough story time.

sorry to hear man, that really sucks....
good luck to ya in the future

RIP you poor car...
Bremsen 09-15-2003, 10:25 PM Leif, I know you said M3, but this has been in the trader for like a month. Might be worth lookin at, keep that insurance premium low.
http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=141987988&dealer_id=&car_year=1994&make=BMW&distance=25&max_price=12000&model=&advcd_on=n&end_year=1994&min_price=&certified=n&address=30004&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1983&color=&cardist=23
Did the guy have insurance? I've seen high claims come from accidents like that, especially when involving injury. (not telling you to find an ambulance chaser, but you are entitled to a little retribution for pain and inconvience)
Stuttgart951 09-15-2003, 10:52 PM Glad everyones ok, repectively.
One accident is all it takes - youll never forget to put it on again.

Damn, Ryan...that looks like a nice one for your lil' sis! :)
Leif E. Bronn 09-16-2003, 12:11 AM Ryan, thanks for the link I'll call tomorrow about it. I think the guy had insurance but I didn't get the police report because I was in the hospital. I'm hoping with insurance and injuries I will have the money to get a nice M3 or similar.
markb50k 09-16-2003, 01:21 AM dude, glad you are ok. that looked like a bad wreck. totalling your car sucks, but its awesome that you are able to KNOW it sucks (i.e. ya lived through it)
Take care

um, no. :nono The whole car thing is a very sore subject with me. She doesn't need nor can she afford an ///M car. Even a hybrid. The costs of repair and maintenence (even with yours and my discounts) compounded with loan payments and insurance (with her record and the fact she hasn't driven in 4 years) is just way beyond her budget. AND putting a Jones behind the wheel of an ///M is just asking for trouble (come on....lets remember back to yours and Ron's incident). She needs to keep her nose clean for the next few years. If she HAS to have a bimmer, lets keep her in a 325 for now.
btw, I know she's reading this. She won't listen to me anyway.
Sorry for my hijacking rant. GAME ON.

SOLD! We'll get together later this week and do the paperwork.
Excellent.
rwindleyme02 09-16-2003, 11:18 AM Great move Aaron! Way to sell the car. Geordie could learn a thing or two from you!
Customer: "Well, I'm looking for an X5, automatic... maybe in blue.."
Geordie: "GREAT! We have one! Come to my office and we'll do the paperwork."

Ummm...I meant the car is an automatic, not that I want one. Didn't we already have this discussion?

About the price? No. We haven't had that yet. That will take care of itself, so don't worry. You'll get this car for a steal!
rwindleyme02 09-16-2003, 11:47 AM
Keep her on the ropes Aaron. Before you know it you'll be putting the keys in her hand while she's still wondering what happened!
Anna: "But...But..."
Aaron: "No buts, I know I'm practically giving this car away but a deal's a deal"
Anna: "What deal? :95  :95  "

It better be free if it's an automatic.
Otherwise, continue your search for a sucker to take that thing off of your hands! ;)

By, "Otherwise, continue your search for a sucker to" do you mean, "I will" ?

Does "sucker" mean "buyer"?
If so, yes. Yes I am.

Sorry Aaron, I don't think those would be considered synonyms.
rwindleyme02 09-16-2003, 12:50 PM Syno-what??? Anyway, all I heard was:

Ron17 09-16-2003, 12:51 PM Car dealerships seem to think they are synonymous.
:az:
Sparc_it 09-16-2003, 01:06 PM Well, I am glad to hear you are OK from your accident...
My neighbor unfortunately was not so lucky, her friend fell asleep at the wheel, while she was laying down in the passnger side sleeping, the car ran off the road, hit a tree i believe, and flipped...throwing my neighbor from the car, she died on impact :(
This happened Sunday night on her way back to USC from Athens..
I know you are greatful that nothing very serious happened to you, but everyone please be careful....
Ron17 09-16-2003, 05:20 PM Driving tired is worse than driving drunk... though infinitely harder to "prove," and is therefore not really punishable.
rwindleyme02 09-16-2003, 05:58 PM Yes, microsleep is bad. Apparently 24% of fatal motorway accidents are caused by it. Looks like BMW is doing some research of it's own... http://www.bmwboard.com/news/view.asp?linkid=294
An interesting read if you have time.
