View Full Version : *SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER* Italian GP BATTLE!!! Phantom 09-14-2003, 08:47 AM There is one HELLUVA battle going on in the Italian GP!!! Don't miss it!! Nailbiter!! Phantom 09-14-2003, 09:27 AM Great performance by Marc Gene to keep Williams in the Constructor's Championship points. Makes me think Williams has gotta be one of the best run teams in F1. And Alonzo's ups and downs! Great race performance recovery after starting from the back of the grid, rear-ending Verstappen's Minardi, going a lap down during repairs, and STILL driving to finish in the points! stjobs 09-14-2003, 10:24 AM The most exciting part was at the beginning when Montoya ALMOST edged past M. Schumacher. Gene did surprisingly well. The commentators on Speed channel kept joking about how the missing barge board and unsecured underpanel didn't seem to affect Alonso's times. Amazing that he scored a point after going airborne twice... Phantom 09-14-2003, 12:27 PM Really? My coverage over here (Star Sports) didn't show Alonzo's car much except when he was going a lap down. Commentators didn't mention the condition of his car, either. When Schumi left the pits behind a Williams after his second stopped I cheered so loud I think I scared the neighbors! I thought he was behind JPM, at first :alright Did you see the marshallers mistakenly give Gene the blue flag? stjobs 09-14-2003, 05:27 PM Yes, I saw that. He was technically leading, so they couldn't make him move over :D Unfortunately, Montoya never reeled Schumacher in. The most critical point in the race, IMO, was the first chicane. When Montoya lunged to the side to get around Schumacher, I started shouting as well. Definitely a hair-raising moment. jake1sir 09-14-2003, 11:50 PM Originally posted by stjobs The most critical point in the race, IMO, was the first chicane. I agree, Montoya lost the race by not making the move on that first chicane, I think he had a bad launch. BMW is suppose to have the better of the launch controls. It was an awesome start of a race. That was hilarious when Alonso got airborne!!!!:buttrock kaiservon 09-15-2003, 12:36 AM About eight of us F1 fans get together for the races. Half hate JPM and the other half hate MS. I think the neighbors were ready to call the cops after our outbursts at JPM overtaking manuever. Didn't end up the way I'd like, but decent race overall. Phantom 09-15-2003, 07:28 AM From itv.com/f1 THE FASTEST RACE EVER 2003-09-15 10:01:00 Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix WAS the fastest F1 race of all time. Michael Schumacher’s average speed over the course of the 53-lap race was 154.74mph, beating the previous record of 151.6mph. That milestone dates back to the 1971 Italian GP, which was won by BRM’s Peter Gethin. Schumacher took just 1h14m19.838s to cover the 190.605mile race. Of course, Monza has been significantly altered since the ’71 race, with chicanes added in a bid to slow the cars down. It has taken the F1 teams 32 years to get back up to the average speeds that they managed in those days but they have finally done it. However, the 1971 race remains the closest finish in F1 history with Gethin beating Ronnie Peterson to the line by just one-hundredth of a second. Just 0.61s covered the first five cars home. It is the second year running that an F1 speed record has fallen at Monza. At an average speed of 161.449mph, Juan Pablo Montoya’s pole time of 1m20.264s was the fastest single lap in the sport’s history, eclipsing Keke Rosberg’s previous mark. |
