I'm wondering if this is normal. We just bought my wife a 2003 530i with the sport package and steptronic transmission. When driving, in stadard auto mode, the shifting doesn't feel right. It will rev up to 3000/3200 then shift. When it shifts, it only drops to about 2800 and then quickly wants shift again at about 3000/3200. There is also a hesitation once the RPMs drop after the RPMs drop then a surge as throttle kicks in. In general, it leaves a feeling that the transmission is hunting for the right gear. Maybe this is because of the ratios... the sales guy thought it was because it's an "adaptive" transmission. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I have an 02 530 and have the same issues...can we unplug the battery to reset the adaptive trans? Would this even work?

well do a search. i dont know if its different on the steptronic trans (dont see why itd be different though) but if you turn the key and press the pedal all the way down for 10Ish seconds it should reset it..

search for the exact details.. but if you want to reset the adaptive trans do it that way
