View Full Version : Seats?
hansbismark 08-26-2003, 06:17 PM I am planning to get new seats for my M3, and I want to see what you guys think.
What I really want is the Sparco Milano 2, in leather, but that is $1,300.
I want something comfortable, not flashy, 6 point harness, and hopefully something relatively luxurious.
From that, do u guys know of any other seats that fit those requirements?
Thanks,
Pablo Prieto
pride355 08-26-2003, 07:20 PM Check out aftermarket seats (http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30459) thread.
You'll find your answer there..
JMWeb 08-26-2003, 09:04 PM I have done alot of research on racing shells for my car. I, also, was once interested in the Sparco Milano and Torino. However, the cost did not justify the marginal weight savings.
My stock seat (power seat, no lumber, non-heated) weighed in at 62.5 lbs.
Sparco claims that the Milano weighs in at: 38lbs and the Torino weighs in at 37lbs.
So, buying 2 seats for $1,200 (Torino) or $1,800 (Milano) does not justify the maximum weight savings of 51 lbs.
I am currently trying to locate a good price on Recaro Pole Positions. It is the same shell that ACS offers in leather. The Pole Positions have a mass of 6.5 Kg (weight about 14lbs). Which saves about 48.5lbs x 2 = 97lbs TOTAL!!
Now that justifies $1,000 +
JMWeb 08-26-2003, 09:14 PM Hey Pride355, did you sit in the CSL seats? Are they reclinable, or do they only slide forward??
Also, did you finally get the Pole Positions? I would love to see pics and get installation help.

pride355 08-26-2003, 09:31 PM Hi Jaweb,
I sat in CSL seats in AutoShow 2003 which took place in Istanbul. The seats were very comfortable for me. Just the right seating position. I guess tilting and adjusting height of the seats can be done.
On the other hand, because of the repaint problems with my brand new M3, I returned the car back to my dealer.
Probably, I'll buy a new M3 in Novamber. Untill that time, I'll wait for the seats but it is my #1 mod on my list.
Furthermore have you weighted the console and electrical motors of your stock seats??
My leather, electrical, heated seats in my E36 M3 EVO weighted 70 lbs. E46 M3 seats weight close to 90 lbs/ each seat (electrical, leather heated seats)
So by Recaro PP, 14 lbs + weight of the console and rails should be around 25 lbs/seat. 65lbs/seat *2 seats= 130 lbs of weight saving which in my opinion well worth 1000$ (or 1000 euro for me)
JMWeb 08-26-2003, 10:17 PM I am just concerned on how the Recaro PP will look (black cloth) and how comfortable they will be. The car is my daily driver...
------------
I took out and weighed the Entire Seat assembly. Unscrewed the 4 screws holding the seat to the car.
My seats are leather and electrical. I do not have heated seats or lumbar adjustment.

leather recaro pole positions
hansbismark 08-27-2003, 10:02 AM Are the Recaro seats comfortable for long rides, or do they get annoying after a while?

Compared to what? The OEM seats are in my opinion one of the best I have ever sat in, well at least until my dad picked up his 2004 A8L. An aftermarket seat likethe Pole Position is designed for racing, not cross country jaunts. So ojn a track they will be far more comfortable, but driving from Chicago to Nags Head, NC would suck.
