Can I re use the gasket/ seal for the piston. It looked like it was in good shape and I can find any rebuild kits in my city. this for my rear brakes.

The kits are cheap, maybe $20. I rebuilt a front caliper and got the parts from autohausaz.com. My piston had a rust spot and I hear you shouldn't use a rusty piston, but you can't buy a new piston....just a new caliper so I got a piece of fine emery cloth and sanded the best I could. 18 months later, and it seems to be working fine.

Some states, like NJ, do not allow the sale of brake rebuild kits.

Btw, remember to use denatured alcohol for cleaning the parts. Other solvents may harm the seals or leave residue which may degrade the brake fluid.

Tom at wuffer.net stocks caliper seal and rebuild kits. He can also get caliper pistons too.

don't cheap out - get new seals. You really do not know how "good" they still are. Of course, if you like rebuilding brake caliper, it would give you a chance to redo them when the seals fail in 3 months. Remember, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link...

Second that - the seals are the reason calipers are rebuilt.
