8Harry8 06-14-2009, 01:30 PM Hm, some things are better left undone, but as you asked, 2nd version looks better to me! ;-)
GimmieSumMo72 06-14-2009, 01:38 PM i like the dark one.

+1
TxGR8White 06-14-2009, 02:45 PM well, here goes: neither. The car now does not look "balanced' anymore. It also looks like you started something and didn't finish it. Go all the way or leave them alone...
...just my 8¢ worth
revtor 06-14-2009, 03:42 PM I like the original best. Never been a fan of tinted tail lights. But hey, it's your car :D...

+1.
8 series tail lights are very unique looking in my opinion, and need no modification to stand out IMO.
LEFT OVER RICE 06-14-2009, 04:37 PM Either the stock look or the lightly smoked look. The total blackout would look too.... Mad Max like:stickoutt
ethanw 06-14-2009, 04:41 PM I don't get it... Why are screwing with a perfectly looking car, perfect lines, design at its best? No offense anyone, OK? Just my personal and strong opinion.....

While I mean it is his car. At least he's not doing anything rash such as this....

ethanw 06-14-2009, 05:21 PM Actually the more I look at it it looks almost as bad, but in a different way.... I now need to get back to sensitivity training :confused
Not exactly sure how I am going to say this.... so I rather don't say it if is not nice.... It feels like someone is almost "water boarding" them 850's... Just leave them alone guys.... Those cars were born with perfect lines, why screw with the design?

BTW, I like the stock look for the tail lights...IMHO.

Yeah, I don't mind people adding upgrades to their cars, afterall anything can be improved. However, people begin to mess up when they stop adding their personality to it and start putting the "lavish" upgrades on it just to make it stand out entirely from the whole parking lot. Mark850's car is nice in my opinion, and it became even nicer when he put the chrome wheels on :D
But yeah, the E31's are perfect pertaining to looks from the factory. It really needs not much improvement other than lowering or the CSI kit along with some M Pars and you have a vehicle that all of the soccer moms wished their husbands owned, a vehicle that looks greater the next door neighbors new E93 convertible regardless of the age and price of the car. Personally, I'm not really into the cars with ACS bumpers and M spoilers or the MK wheels (although I am partial about them), but as I said you have others who are into that stuff so let them be. Afterall, at the end of the day, who's paying for those MK wheels in the all black finish???
Certainly not me:rolleyes

For some reason, after the doors it resembles a 240sx in a way. Regardless of it being an E31 or a 240sx, its shameful. Could you imagine driving that daily and having to explain yourself to people who are hiding the laughs until they return to the car :lol
AngryWhopper 06-14-2009, 06:56 PM I agree to leave em alone but if you insist i say the second picture (lighter)
tdotbimmer 06-14-2009, 07:46 PM Leave them alone especially on a black car. Colour scheme is perfect.
smokum 06-15-2009, 01:47 AM Stk
wokke 06-15-2009, 02:49 AM there are much better ways to individualize your car - in case you feel it's necessary :)
Chillax 06-15-2009, 03:56 AM I like the lighter one if I had to make a choice. I wonder what LED bulbs would do back there? Are there even LED bulbs for the tail?
bRIZZAd 06-15-2009, 11:39 AM It's his car, I say do whatever you want to it. Mind you I say that because I've done what I want. :) Besides, that's not as permanent as some of the ugly body modifications that have been pointed out.

8eights 06-15-2009, 02:24 PM What size are those exhaust tips Brad? Tia!
ethanw 06-15-2009, 03:14 PM Can always go with a Star Wars theme since you're at it :-)
rcrad6653 06-15-2009, 06:13 PM Dang you guys... it's just smoked tail lights fercrizzakes.... I'm surprised at all this strong opinion beyond the simple light or dark...sheesh..... +1 dark
Koizumi 06-15-2009, 06:49 PM I like the lighter version, Mark.
I was thinking about doing this a while back, too, but decided to ease back on all the gratuitous spending on my E31 :nuts
8eights 06-15-2009, 06:55 PM have you noticed less dark tails in Ca? Highway Patrol is ticketing all they catch.
Koizumi 06-15-2009, 07:03 PM ^^^I have Marv. My car is a magnet as is, no need to make it worse for me. The dark tails are gettin' pulled over all the time. I'm happy that at least they're not going after 35% front side window tints anymore. Back in the 90s I kept getting tickets for mild tint. Almost every car has tint on the front side windows nowdays in Cali.
8eights 06-15-2009, 07:06 PM I've went through that as well, You could get a ticket for any shade on the front in the 90's, It use to be one of the reasons to initially stop you.
Imndeep 06-16-2009, 06:21 PM Man I'm glad I left home back in 1981. I can't believe what they did (doing) to you guys with all the screwy laws.

No offense guys. It's just back home in Valencia it used to be a lot different in the 70's and 80's.
Koizumi 06-16-2009, 07:20 PM The 90s was tint crackdown decade. Nowdays it's tail patrol, lol. Cali is nutty, no doubt about it.
Granite850i 06-16-2009, 07:53 PM I tinted mine like you are thinking about doing in the dark pic but it looks good to me because the car is granite silver. Yours is black and if you smoke them like the dark pic it would make the rear end look kinda funky IMO. I would go with the lighter otherwise not at all. Just my opinion.

LOL...nDeep don't you worry...its spreading like wildfire...Guzzle tax is on its way if you don't have government standarts type of car

ogorek 06-17-2009, 06:55 AM Use special foil for lamps. It looks way better and You can always remove it. It also covers damage lamps and protects them. example:

rcrad6653 06-17-2009, 11:21 AM This thread shows perfectly the different opinions we have about what looks good on our cars. Like wheels, paint colors, or the spoilers it's very subjective. Personally the first top pic IMO helps the rear look of the car by toning down that bunch of red plastic we have in back. One shade doesn't work for all car colors either. I like this simple mod but another reason to attract the man would probably prevent me from doing it.

Just like Hot Rodding, it's all personal preference and artistic expression. Carspainc, your car is unique and very artistic, not my style, but cool at the same time. Mark, I'd consider the medium shade for my car, mine's Schwartz 2, it'd look BA without taking too much away from the car.
