Like nearly every e31, mine originally came with the recently unserviceable analog telephone mounted to the center console. I looked on realoem and the diagram shows only one "console insert" part number to replace the one with the sawed off back. I ordered it from Gault, and got the exact same part that I am trying to get rid of. I even told Charlie during the order that I was specifically trying to delete the phone. No other part numbers are listed, and the drawing clearly shows the insert having a closed tray.

Is this part available? And what is the number if it's not 51-16-8-124-898?

They were available about 1/2 year ago. I just sold mine to wsj...
