Hi there!
I've been lurking here for a few weeks, and yesterday get the keys of a nice red 96 840 in beautiful Northern Ireland. Took it on the ferry to general approval and nods of admiration. Then drove home across up through the even more beautiful hills of Scotland in, grinning all the way.
Can anyone help diagnose a pair of sunroof problems for me?
The mechanism is fine, just that when you slide it closed, if does not lift up into the flat position. You can push the button and it will go into the flat position OK.
It also does not slide closed along with the windows when you hold the door key turned. The windows go up OK, just not the sunroof, and it opens OK it just doesn't close.
Any ideas?

Best of luck with the new car and welcome to the forum. Do a search either here or on roadfly.com for the sunroof fix. A common reset is to have the key in the on position, close the roof and push the switch to the up position which will vent the roof. Hold it there until you hear it reseting itself(20-30 sec.), and it sounds like a clunk. Then open and close the roof, and it may be functional as desired. If the sunroof remains out of alignment with the roof, you can also easily adjust the height by adjusting the bolts on either side while in the vent position. This as well as to how to manually slide the shade in order to access the bolts are also explained in detail. Very common issue on our cars. Enjoy your car.

Thanks for that, niteman... Resetting the sunroof fixed problem 1. After about 20 secs pressing the button in the tilt position, it raised itself another inch, and now it goes flat when you close it.
For problem 2 it looks like I need to locate and resolder the Comfort Relay. Where is this thing?
thanks

I am having the exact problem... When open and I close (Push forward) it goes closed to about 1 inch from competely shut and stops. If I hit the tilt button, it closes flush. It doesn't appear that I can tild the rear up... Is that even a possibility? in a 91? I held the tilt button for about 20 seconds... heard a relay click... open and close agin still doesn't close fully with a full forward push... any ideas?

What I have learned over the years... when suroof's fail... repeatedly or spectacularly - rebuild the whole thing. When mechanisms have jumped timing... all the "reset" procedures in the world will not fix a mechanical issue... it isnt an "adjust the screws" thing... one needs to take the top off and do the timing procedure... may likely need some new components too.
The inner liner not being timed right and the issue with the lift suggests you need to, at the least, disassemble and do the timing procedure.

I downloaded the ETM to try to find the elusive Comfort Relay, to fix my problem with the sunroof not closing along with the windows when the key is held in the lock position.
The schematic seems to be suggesting that this is 'Relay Module A5', which is located in the left door sill. Can anyone confirm this? How do you get at it?

Thanks Winkie. Where are you in NI? My car came from Kells, near Ballymena - maybe you've seen it. It's a dark red one.
I fixed the remaining sunroof problem with a squirt of contact cleaner in the connectors at the sunroof module. This was advice from another forum.
Thankfully no need to go poking around under the dash or under the carpets.
