First of all, will a lightweight flywheel work with the SMG transmision?

Is it worth the money? I heard that it helps the engine rev quicker but you also drop rpms when shifting.

What do you guys think??

Idle chatter is the only con I can think of and yes it will work with SMG II no problem.

Pros:

faster acceleration
easier heel toe shifting

Cons:

faster deceleration
noise
decreased engine smoothness

When will it cause a faster deceleration? Does the quicker acceleration make up for it. That is, is there a net increase in acceleration?

frayed means the engine decelerates faster when you take your foot off the gas, i.e. less ability to power shift.

the car just accelerates faster, period.

Frayed pretty much covered it all.

I wonder how a lightweight flywheel would affect the throttle blips of the SMG tranny

Damn, good question.

What is a throttle blimp?

To match revs upon downshifting. SMGs do this automatically (at least that's my understanding):

Hit shifter, clutch disengages, DME blips throttle to bring revs up to higher rpm to match rpm for the given gear and road speed, clutch engages. Essentially an automatic version of heel toe shifting.

It minimizes engine braking, and from a performance standpoint, prevents upsetting the balance of the car when downshifting.

Yes... but it only throttle blips when your foot is on the gas (at least that's what my limited experience with SMG has taught me)

You mean when you are accelerating, you upshift, foot on gas, the thottle is blipped? Doesn't make sense to me.

I haven't driven SMG that much... so I may be talking out of my ass, but my limited experience with it is ... if you are just lazily driving along at low rpm and you downshift... it won't revmatch the RPMs (unless you go into first). However, if you're on the gas (like driving hard then mash the brakes and hit the downshift button)... it'll revmatch every gear change.

I think it tries to interpret lazy driving versus spirited driving. A few downshifts that I executed with SMG were not revmatch and the car would let the clutch out causing engine braking.

Maybe "on the gas" was a bad choice of words.

Ahh, I see.
