But someone else told me that "modifying a DOT light makes it non DOT approved wich[sic] is a violation plus it is a safety violation and if someone hits you they can blame your lights and if the cop cites you for it the accident is your fault."

i got pulled over with tinted tails but mine were black (VHT recommends 2 or 3 coats, i put on 2 cans :devillook). you could still see the light shine through during the day but cop said you need to be able to see the reflectors
