View Full Version : Mass. inspection & aftermarket steering wheel?

I'm considering a Momo steering wheel for my car, it would not have an airbag. Has anyone running an aftermarket steering wheel w/o an airbag had any trouble with their Massachusetts inspection because of the airbag deletion?

I did a search on this but the only on-point answer I found was from several years ago, but it seems like inspection criteria are growing increasingly strict. The RMV website has no information on this modification either.

I have a momo, had my bag removed, and have had no issues.

It would certainly suck if they actually enforce half the crap they propose these days.

It is illegal to have -

No airbag when there was once one
ANY aftermarket exhaust that is 'louder' than the original
window tint
etc
etc
etc

Dan Chadwick recently made a post in the track section about a change in laws regarding this...

I recommend just having the stock one on for inspection and then just putting the momo on after you get it. It's once a year. That way you can say they passed you with it because it met regulations if a cop pulls you over.

not really like that any more ^^ the inspector who passes you can have up to 1000 dollar fine if he is caught passing an illegal car and also will lose his license for a period of time.

So no one will help you out anymore.

Someone should make a "fake" airbag snap on for a Momo that looks and feels like a real airbag, but pops on and off in seconds.

Then we just pass it around to each other on the forum to get our sticker.

I got my car inspected and it passed!

I don't have an airbag, just a Momo wheel.

They did make me take the "Turner Motorsport" license plate trim off the rear. How silly is that - they ignore an airbag which actually could save my life, but make me unscrew and remove my license plate trim piece. Only in America.

After I passed inspection, I put Turner back on :-)

+14 hp ;)
My bimmerforums sticker gave me 30hp in the E36...but it has since faded only giving me about 20 now...

I'd say +20hp for the Turner license plate frame. See, if you have a Turner license plate frame you may qualify for discounts at Turner, which means you spend more on performance parts, thus creating more HP at the wheels. In addition, you have less money in your wallet, making you lighter.

I like the way this man thinks.
