If you remember, I posted about 6 months ago about my girlfriend receiving an '85 635csi. Well, she is now getting rid of it. Just looking to find out what a reasonable price to expect for it is. Here's the story:
It has 212k miles, and has been very well cared for. My girlfriend got it as a gift from her dad about a year ago. New paint job 3yrs ago - it sparkles, car looks sharp. Top-end engine job done about a year ago. Complete brake job 3 months ago (bastards at Jiffy lube put AT fluid in the brake system). My girlfriend installed a CD player and has a cover for the vehicle.
Now for the not-so-good. It has a few scratches in the paint, and one pretty good ding in the grill from a rock. The leather in the drivers seat and the dash is cracked. The air conditioning doesn't work due to a broken hose (easily repairable). Cruise control doesn't work. The ABS controller was not replaced with rest of brake system, so the ABS doesn't work. Rear driver-side window has a burnt-out motor. Both headrest motors are broken.
All in all it's an absolute blast to drive (believe me, I beg all the time), but my girlfriend wants a nice, new, reliable car, and doesn't want to deal with the repairs. She was planning on buying a jetta, but to her...surprise, her dad gave her the car, and she felt bad about wanting to sell it. Well, a year later, she still wants her jetta, so I'm out of a fun car to drive. I'll be sorry to see it go, but then again, my girlfriend won't be frustrated every time her bimmer has to go into the shop.
