View Full Version : Oil the Engine???? Brent_Vino 08-20-2003, 02:17 PM What do you guys use to make your engine look like new? Simple Green i have and that will clean the covers and whatever, but what do you use make the hoses glossy and stuff??? Brent_Vino 08-20-2003, 03:30 PM how about using that Meguiars Endurance Gloss for tires on the hoses and valve cover?? would that be a good idea? fuckers, I just called my shop and asked them what they used on the engine i bought after i did my money shift, and the fuckin guy said it was a secret.... WTF is up with that bullshit. Kramer 08-20-2003, 04:33 PM Lighten up. Worrying about little things like that will kill ya, man! As mentioned with the black floormats (http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=124218) , I would recommend using a silicone spray made for treating rubber. Protects, prolongs and makes look like new. But, I really don't like the slimey, shiney look. Just black. So that may not work for you. moonluv810 08-21-2003, 12:05 AM TOP SECRET http://members.cox.net/silverm3/images/Engine1.jpg rwindleyme02 08-21-2003, 11:03 AM That is DAMN clean! Wish we could learn the secret! :) Someone had to have gotten in there with a toothbrush or something. Kramer 08-21-2003, 11:07 AM 15 people all making $3/hr and happy about it...that's the secret. rwindleyme02 08-21-2003, 12:19 PM Ahhhh... that makes a lot of sense. rwindleyme02 08-21-2003, 02:52 PM Thanks Kramer, Done. Drjones 08-21-2003, 04:36 PM Seriously, please tell us what you use on that engine to get it so beautiful!!! :) moonluv810 08-21-2003, 11:49 PM Sorry, I do pretty much all the work on my car. Do a search, it's been discussed soooo many times. :) pyguinard 08-22-2003, 10:18 AM Originally posted by moonluv810 Sorry, I do pretty much all the work on my car. I searched for your name and the link ... http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=69947&highlight=engine+clean came up..... all you have is photos.... why be a jerkoff and come on here and say top secret? if its that much trouble to tell us what you used, go F yourself. pyguinard 08-22-2003, 11:41 AM  Whooooo, those Italian hockey players do get agressive pretty quickly!! Here, have a look at these threads (if not done already):Cleaning the Engine Bay? (http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=123779) Cleaning factory rubber floor mats? (http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=124218) ... And don't put oil on your engine, especially peanut's because it will make your engine bay smell like french fries.... :) Stay cool, man! :) Drjones 08-22-2003, 01:35 PM So I've got it down to one of two things: 1. Silicone spray 2. WD-40 C'mon...why won't you tell us? Osiicks 08-22-2003, 01:35 PM I clean mine with soap, water and a soft brush and then spray the entire compartment with Tire Shine.....works great...and I suspect its a trick that dealers use to dress up the engine compartment on used cars Osiicks 08-22-2003, 01:36 PM Whoops thats Tire Foam Kramer 08-22-2003, 04:13 PM Tire foam is a similar tactic to silicone. Only silicone is much cleaner. Not as much "extra material". moonluv810 08-22-2003, 05:44 PM Did you really expect me to write a lengthy post with step-by-step instructions everytime people ask the same question? Many people have documented the procedures, taking pictures of the process and so on and so forth. All I do is following Jim Powell's instructions plus the WD-40 trick. Dr Jones has blantantly opposed Jim's instructions. Feel free to do so. The top secret was supposed to be a joke to the first poster who mentioned that his detailer didn't want to share his secret. Cleaning an engine bay is not a secret. Everyone knows how to clean an engine bay, whether it's the right way or the wrong way. pyguinard, I always try to contribute to this community. But I just don't have the time to respond to all questions especially those that have been posted earlier and documented in great details by others. Brent Hockey, no need for name calling. You call other people jerkoff and fucker just because of you can't locate something on the internet??? You don't sound too educated. Cursing is for kiddo dude. If any of you is still not happy, I welcome you to PM me privately. ps: after some readings on the internet, some people have suggested that WD-40 will dry up plastic and rubber. I don't think I have mentioned this anywhere. ClintonM3 08-23-2003, 09:13 AM Detailing the engine cover with silicone is as far as I would go. I wouldn't take silicone and use it on the hose, wire covers and such. Kramer 08-23-2003, 09:58 AM I disagree. Silicone does two things. 1) displaces water and can be used in ignition systems (old fashioned points systems) and 2) treats and softens plastic and rubber. Things like WD-40 are what I would not put on my hoses and wires... G. P. Burdell 08-23-2003, 01:40 PM In the long term, silicone-based dressings that contain petroleum distillates are bad for rubber. They can cause the rubber to crack. Armor All tended to attract dust and dirt when I applied it to my car. Nowadays I use Vinylex on the trim and just wipe down the engine bay with a damp towel. Things like WD-40 are what I would not put on my hoses and wires... Sillicone based cleaners maybe displacing water, but it attracts dust. The pic of the engine bay might look glossy and with tons of shine. It might actually have a lot of dust on it. I do the exact as GP Burdell. I leave it as a matte finish. If I want the glossy look, I would buy a spray can of specialty high heat clearcoat. BAVARIAN323i 08-27-2003, 03:11 AM Engine gunk to clean the area, then I use armoral dash protection on the engine cover pyguinard 08-27-2003, 09:47 AM Originally posted by moonluv810 Did you really expect me to write a lengthy post with step-by-step instructions everytime people ask the same question?
