Does this shop still exist?

I know a member by the name of Black96m3 (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/member.php?u=51474) worked there, but he seems to have been banned since. He quoted me at $300 labor for a clutch job, around $600ish total (parts and labor). But that was about two years ago. Dunno if those prices still hold today.

But anyway, as mentioned, I need a clutch job. I went to a local shop today, and the guy told me he would give me a free estimate. Cool. I drop my car off, and a couple of hours later he calls back quoting $475 labor. Now I was NOT ready to make a decision on the spot but apparently this guy expected me to. I just wanted an estimate, that's all. Is that so wrong?

He was downright insulted when I told him "I need time" and "I wanna shop around." Then he puts his manager on the phone who lowers the price to $375 labor. Tells me he's giving me the "wholesale" deal. He wouldn't give me the parts cost but when I mentioned the $600 deal at Project M Spec he said "No way. They aren't using OE parts." Dunno if that's true or not, but whatever.

I was not happy. Shouldn't they make their customers feel comfortable? If I said I need more time (discuss it with my dad, etc...) then what's the big deal? Why am I forced to make a decision on the spot? The guy was like "I don't understand. You brought it to us and now you don't want the work done?" :confused

Hello! I came in for an estimate. An ESTIMATE. I never made a commitment with you.

Am I wrong here?

But anyway, more info on Project M Spec would be appreciated. If Black96m3 is here under a different name (or any other employees), please PM me, because your shop sounds like the better deal.

I couldn't find them on google maps... I have an address from bimmerforums, but no phone number. Help is much appreciated! Thanks guys :)

You're completely in the right for estimates and your situation. :) I wouldn't go back there just because of the service you received.
