Last time (2 weeks ago) my friends got at least 6 runs. May have been 8. But the day was also tentatively rain, so. That sounds more likely. I'll be there either way to give them a shot, and hopefully they allow a good amount of runs. It's hard to find a good auto-x region around here... JDwyer2821 05-26-2009, 01:05 PM I hope more than three runs. I am hoping this will be a good warm up for the track. I will be at watkins glen for 3 days the following week. The GF not going to be happy that I'm planning another car event. We all now how understanding GF's can be. ;) purduinaM3 05-26-2009, 01:16 PM This is why you need to find a girl that races along with you :D hurrican5547 05-26-2009, 05:38 PM This is why you need to find a girl that races along with you :D What if she is better than you? So there is a pretty decent amount of people def. goin huh? bmxcm 05-26-2009, 06:14 PM I'll prolly plan on being there w/another M. it'll be nice to see more than a couple bmw's there for once. jburnham 05-26-2009, 11:04 PM I just registered - I'll see you there. Then she's a keeper! :D So there is a pretty decent amount of people def. goin huh? I'll be showing up with 5-6 buddies who also have E36 M3's, so it should be a decent turn out. I just registered - I'll see you there. Didn't know you could preregister? purduinaM3 06-08-2009, 05:06 AM Didn't see any of you there today... Oh well. I had a good time until the end. Unfortunately one of the guys who runs the show was on a bit of a power trip, but what's done is done. I ended up taking 2nd in the street tire class (STA) even though my front koni's on the GC's are blown/leaking. Looks as though I'll be ordering AST's sooner than I thought... I've got a bunch more pics, but here's one that my buddy took of my car... http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3384/3606379552_562c5a94bf_o.jpg bmxcm 06-08-2009, 01:17 PM Didn't see any of you there today... The times posted for my car on the site under #416 were Joes. I'm Bob, and as # 412 I got a best of 39.3, which translated to 2nd place in STA. Those times aren't shown on the site though. The gentleman who didn't like me is also named Bob... visible 06-15-2009, 09:50 PM Uh oh. Bilstein Sports IN (on my vanilla 325i). Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. See some of you there the 21st? Yeah, yeah? See some of you there the 21st? Yeah, yeah? Care to elaborate on the incident? We'll just say they're sticklers when it comes to being on time for your work assignment, regardless of whether or not it's after the event. Anyways, we had a good time. 5 of us wound up going and it was a blast. Pros: -Super cheap -30 minute work assignment FTW. We hung out and drove basically all day. Other clubs have much more work time, which makes the day more intense. This made things much more laid back. You have time to talk with people, and watch other cars run. Driving aside, I had a lot of fun hanging out, meeting people, and getting a chance to watch other cars run without having to worry about working the whole day. -Decent course design, given what they're working with. They made the best of a small lot. -Good location, for me at least. I drove less than a half hour. I plan on going to a lot of the Bristol events because it's so close and cheap. Cons: -The lot isn't huge, so the course was pretty tight. Not the best thing for our cars. Mine is stock and the front end was plowing all over the place. Faster, more open courses where the car doesn't understeer so bad tend to be more fun. The course was also super confusing until you got a few runs in. I walked it 5 times and still got lost on my fist time out. People were DNF'ing a lot at the beginning of the day. -I've had better instructors. There were some nice guys there, but also some with real short fuses. As a novice, I didn't ride with anyone that was able to give me any constructive input on my driving. They seemed to be in the car out of obligation, and when not in the car some seemed to get upset with you for not knowing rules that they failed to mention. Other guys had similar experiences. I don't want to get into bashing the guys who run it on a public forum, but we're all pretty nice and respectful dudes, and we had more than one incident with instructors giving us a hard time about stuff over the course of the day. In the end though, we're all there to have fun, and you can't let stuff like that ruin the experience for you. Overall, i'd definitely go again due to the positive attributes of it. This was only my 2nd AutoX, but I had a blast. I've run with NER up at Devons, which is a MUCH larger, faster, and more open course on much better pavement. But the work assignment is super intense (ie. when you're not driving, you're working), it's real far, and it's more expensive. You guys should come down next time. |
