View Full Version : WTF??? ticket for tints and nothing else?
ganesht 05-21-2009, 08:27 PM So my friend just got a ticket on his car for tinted windows (35% f1 all around).. he wasn't speeding or on his cell.. he was getting off the 5 and stops at a red light when a cop pulls behind him, the light turns green they go about a mile when the cop switches lanes and starts to gun it right before he passes my friend he drops back behind him and turns on his light a minute later...
anyhow my friend was puzzled as to why he was getting stopped, the cop says its because the tints, and then goes on to say something about the new cell phone laws and how cops are going to be writing more tint tickets even if you didn't do anything else wrong..
NicoyAKinG 05-21-2009, 08:35 PM um yeah, its illegal to have ANY tint in the front windows and windshield.
dont break the law and you wont get pulled off, pretty simple.
C NoTe 05-21-2009, 09:26 PM Uh yea I don't see what the problem is... Any tint is illegal expect a ticket I do.
Falcon501 05-21-2009, 09:41 PM Driving with tint on the front windows is asking for a ticket.
That why its windows down for me most of the time..:)
Rtistik 05-21-2009, 09:41 PM the cop says its because the tints, and then goes on to say something about the new cell phone laws and how cops are going to be writing more tint tickets even if you didn't do anything else wrong..
im shocked... you can easily see through his tint..
The EXACT same thing was said to me by the LEO that pulled me over about a month ago. I'd bet that your friend got pulled over at night as well? If your friend wasn't an ass about it, he might've been let off like I was, they're just doing their job.
AzNaLaN15 05-21-2009, 10:35 PM Windows down at all times unless your on the freeway =]
ELIBEEMER 05-21-2009, 11:15 PM I got pulled over for tinted headlamps, but he didnt say anything about my tinted windows. 35% and 5% on the rear

SeanDub 05-21-2009, 11:21 PM OMG pulled over for breakin the law?!
:confused
Burtonn 05-21-2009, 11:46 PM That is why you just have to make friends with cops. So you can have the tickets signed off :)
Alkasquawlik 05-22-2009, 12:04 AM It's kind of bullshit that the cops would pull you over for just a tint ticket, trust me its happened to me.
But you broke the law by tinting the windows, deal with it and don't bitch about it.
LongBeachM3 05-22-2009, 12:13 AM I can relate to this. Got pulled over in my old E30 for my exhaust but got a ticket for tint instead. Also got pulled over in my current E36 for tint. I don't have good luck when it comes to the police
gsolo 05-22-2009, 12:38 AM are CA tint tickets a fix-it or a fine (or both)?
C NoTe 05-22-2009, 12:42 AM fix-it but you still have to pay $25
Pswirley 05-22-2009, 01:22 AM Cop pulled up next to me today and asked me to roll down my window (20% tint). I rolled it down and he looked over and said, "Nice car man, drive safe out there."
I said thanks and rolled the windows back up.
Car looked like this the entire time. Europlate and everything.

rcantu 05-22-2009, 03:14 AM you can have a small strip on the top of the windshield.
front windows need to be 65% or lighter tint so it's basically a slight shade darker than the typical glass.
cops have been giving tint only tickets for years. I got 1 in 1990. It's part of probable cause so they can tag you for other things while they stop you like popping your hood for engine mods.
um yeah, its illegal to have ANY tint in the front windows and windshield.
dont break the law and you wont get pulled off, pretty simple.
AngryWhopper 05-22-2009, 03:16 AM i dont understand why people bitch when they know they got pulled over for somethings thats the law. Its known that you will get a ticket for having front windows tinted. If your going to do it anyways, dont complain when you do get the ticket.

check out the pic in this thread. Not bad but I personally wouldn't do it. I'd get an E46 m3

nope this was around lunch time..
i really doubt my friend was being an ass.
OMG pulled over for breakin the law?!
I was just shocked that cops were giving out tickets for tint alone...
i would understand if he had 5% but 35% and at day time?
I also understand that its a safety issue for cops to walk up to a car with dark tints at night since the cops cant see what your doing inside..

like i said before i just wasn't aware that cops were giving tickets for tinting alone...so far the only times ive read about someone getting a tint ticket was if they were also speeding or doing something else..
dan32888 05-22-2009, 05:52 AM Cop pulled up next to me today and asked me to roll down my window (20% tint). I rolled it down and he looked over and said, "Nice car man, drive safe out there."

I didn't quote the picture, but I love the front plate :rofl
Schultz28 05-22-2009, 05:59 AM all you have to do is find a cop to make friends with so he can sign off those tickets... or drive with they windows down!
cops will pull you over for anything these days... i got pulled over for loud exhaust the other day and my cars not even loud!
D_ALPINE_M 05-22-2009, 10:41 AM Sounds normal to me, I got pulled over a few years ago on my M and the cop hassled me for my front windows tinted but still let me go with a warning. The no front window tint has been around for years and still being enforced. My ex got one for my Yukon 2 years ago and had to remove the front tint :( Need my tint back :devillook
