View Full Version : KW Galvanized Coilovers, Variant 1 and Variant 2 Group Buy! *NOW CLOSED*
Pro-Imports 08-18-2003, 12:29 PM Pro-Imports, working with KW Suspensions, is proud to bring to the members of bimmerforums.com, a one-time only group buy on the remaining inventory of KW variant 1 and variant 2 galvanized steel coilovers. This remaining inventory is a production overrun of the last generation galvanized coilovers from KW before their switch over to the newer INOX coilover design in March of 2003. KW Suspensions would like for everyone to experience the exceptional combination of ride comfort and performance inherent in their coilover design, and therefore is allowing us exclusive access to this inventory at an affordable price.
The only differences in design between the last generation galvanized and the newer generation INOX are as follows:
1) galvanized steel shock housing vs INOX polished stainless steel shock housing
2) double locking collar spring perch height adjustment vs single spring perch height adjustment with locking hex nut
3) upgraded strut threading for easier adjustment with dirt and grime on the INOX
These KW galvanized coilovers are identical to the INOX coilovers in all other aspects of performance. Valving, spring rates, and adjustment settings are identical. These coilovers are also covered by KW Suspensions’ lifetime warranty against all manufacturer defects.
Orders will be processed in batches of 10. Orders placed by each Wednesday will be assembled by KW and then shipped by the following Wednesday via UPS 3-day. This group buy will continue on for 6 weeks, or until all production overrun inventory is sold. Once this stock is sold out, KW coilovers will only be available for full list price in the INOX version.
The inventory we have access to, with pricing, is as follows:
Variant 1: (height adjustable)
BMW E39 5-Series (excluding M5) – 5 sets - $1220.00 shipped
BMW E36 3-Series – 15 sets - $940.00 shipped

m3ltw98 08-18-2003, 11:21 PM Any chance you can get the Variant 3's? Let me know. Thanks
simon323ispp 08-19-2003, 11:36 AM ok, maybe I'm the only one a bit confused...but could you clarify something for me?
for the KW v.2 on the E46 3er, you stated "14 sets, $1075 shipped." now, does that mean if I order now, I'd have to wait until you guys get 14 orders, then it will be $1075?? or does it mean you have 14sets in stock, and they're $1075 if I order now?
Thanks!

I can check. The casings are all the same, just need to put the different internals in. I'm assuming you'd want the competition valved V3s correct?

14 sets total available. If you order now, you'll have to wait until we get 10 orders batched before KW will process the order. Keep in mind though, we will be running this group buy across the BMW, Audi, and VW forums. Quantities are limited, and MINIMUM order quantity is 10. They won't take any less and if we have some left over odd orders, buyers will have their money refunded.
TooTall424 08-19-2003, 01:14 PM how do these compare to the GC track/school kit?

The Variant 3's are completely adjustable. There should be no competition valving cause of the range of adjustability. Later

I know that the V3s are completely adjustable. We have the V3s on our shop car, but KW says they have a "street" valving and a "competition" valving for the V3s. When we order V3s from them, we have to specify street or competition, because they are built-to-order.

Are you talking about the Koni adjustables with the GC coilover sleeves?
TooTall424 08-19-2003, 03:13 PM yes
m3ltw98 08-19-2003, 03:16 PM Oh ok, thats new to me. I would want competition valving. Please post back w/ the price. Thanks for the clear up

I don't really have much experience with the GC kit. I've personally never driven on the GC/Koni setup, only a GC/Tokico setup on a CRX. I know GC makes excellent suspensions, but the KWs have matched shocks and springs for optimal performance and ride. Also, the KWs are galvanized and will be much more resistant to rust than the Konis. If you look at the salt spray test KW conducted, the galvanized fared almost as well as their INOX stainless steel line, and MUCH better than any other suspension kits. http://www.kw-gmbh.de/e_version/salzspruehnebeltest/info.html
There's also a brief review of the KW V1s in EuroTuner:

TooTall424 08-19-2003, 04:53 PM those pics are impressive....what springs come with the kit?
i am interested in variant 2 or 3....

If you're asking about spring rates, I'm still waiting for KW to get back to me on a list of spring rates for different applications.
Quite a few people have been inquiring.

No, this is a straight bolt-on kit.

Pro-Imports 08-21-2003, 05:04 PM I wanted to let everyone know that we’ll be sending out our first orders to KW tomorrow. Originally we were supposed to put orders in every Wednesday, but KW has decided to be a little more flexible with our order dates. In order to expedite the process for everyone and to keep as few people waiting as possible, we’d like to get customers currently interested in this group buy into our first batch of orders. Delivery date for the KW galvanized coilover kits, after assembling, and shipping over from KW Germany, will be no later than 2 to 3 weeks from tomorrow.
If you have any questions, or would like to place an order, please give me a call at 301-519-0908.

Finally got a price from KW for you.
They can't do the KW galvanized coilovers in the V3 for your E36 M3. What they CAN do, is get you the V3 in the INOX for your car.
Normal price on the KW V3 INOX for the E36 M3 is $2225. If you want this kit, we can get it to you for $1780 (shipping included).
This goes for anyone else with an E36 M3 that's also interested in the KW V3 INOX.
Get back to me before tomorrow noon, because these orders will be going to KW by tomorrow noon to be processed.
skelator 08-21-2003, 05:10 PM Any clue on the Variant 3 pricing, or is this GB strictly V1 and V2?
*edit* sorry, you beat me to it!

Nathan,
I'm not sure -- I'll have to check with KW on this.
Pro-Imports 08-21-2003, 05:23 PM That $1780 price should be good for the M Coupe/M Roadster as well. Keep in mind it's the INOX version, so that's about another $200 to the price.

m3ltw98 08-22-2003, 04:18 PM How long will the KW V3's in competition valving and Inox finish take to be delivered to me? Im VERY interested but dont feel like waiting 2-4 weeks like I've heard. Please post back. Later
Pro-Imports 08-22-2003, 06:01 PM Can't do anything about the wait time.
EVERY V3 is made-to-order. They don't stock V3s at all, unlike the V1 and V2s they will stock.
Figure anywhere from 2-3 weeks for delivery.

so...how many sets have been ordered so far for the E46 KW.v2 coils? or did you mean 10 orders overall? ie, audi, vw orders included as part of the 10 orders.
I was hoping to judge how long the wait will be before I see the coils after ordering...thanks.

Our first batch of 10+ orders went to KW last Friday.
We were processing in batches of 10, like the original post stated... regardless of make or model of car. You can expect to see your kits 2.5-3 weeks after we forward our orders to KW.
We are now processing in batches of 5 to allow for more flexibility and to expedite delivery to our customers.

V2: $1500 shipped 3 day

These prices will only be good up until next week Friday.
zoran 09-13-2003, 02:11 PM Just curious....Is there a difference between the coilover kit for an M3 and an M Coupe? Or are they the same model?
Thanks.
Pro-Imports 09-14-2003, 08:04 PM Yes. There is a difference. The rear suspension of the E36 M3 is different than the M Coupe/M Roadster.
The kits are different, but the prices are the same.
Pro-Imports 09-14-2003, 08:08 PM Thought you guys interested in the V3s might want to see the E46 M3 V3 we just got in last week... and yes, those are external reservoirs on all 4 corners.
Estoril4dr 09-17-2003, 12:15 PM Hi i might be interested in a set of the varient 2 for my car. Only question is do the e36 M3 sedans use the same setup as the coupes. I only see coilovers for the coupe listed but I have a sedan.
Pro-Imports 09-17-2003, 04:10 PM Yes, the kit for the E36 coupe and sedan are the same. Please email me at info@pro-imports.com if you have any further questions.
