Tomorrow Williams will be in the FIA appeals court. They will be appealing the FIA ruling against Ralf Schumacher. It will be the first time television cameras will be allowed in the FIA appeals court.

The ruling will definetly affect the drivers and constructors championship outcome.

Any opinions on what the ruling will be?

If I were Williams I would just take the 10 position penelty and start Ralf from the pit land with fresh tyres and a full fuel load.

GO WILLIAMS!!!

See you at Indy.

What does everyone think? Is Ralf at fault?

I haven't seen that accident in two weeks. He did get sandwiched in there by the two other drivers, but he also had no idea that the driver to the left of him was there.

Ralf is a moron. He's cause SOOO many accidents during his F1 career he deserves to go down for this whether or not it's his fault.

Whatever I think of Ralf aside, my objective opinion is that the incident does not warrant a 10-position penalty.

The driver in question did not aggressively or dangerously "chop" across the track (Michael Schumacher holds the patent on that move).

The driver (Ralf) moved over in a gradual manner, one in which the car adjacent to him (Rubens) could have had the opportunity to yield under normal circumstances owing to Ralf having had "nose position" and therefore the right of way.

However, in this instance a third car (Kimi) was beside Rubens and accelerating along the pavement edge. Any further movement left from Kimi would have placed two wheels on the grass, a situation with potentially dire consequences for Kimi under heavy acceleration, possibly owing to his launch control process still being active.

Furthermore, Rubens could not yield because at this point he no longer had fore-aft wheel clearance, meaning his front/rear wheels were interlocked with those of Ralf on his right and Kimi on his left. Decelerating would have led to dangerous wheel-to-wheel contact. Rubens was caught with nowhere to go.

In my opinion Ralf gradually moved toward the racing line in an acceptable manner given his nose position vis-a-vis Rubens, a manner in which he could have reasonably expected Rubens to yield. Also, it is highly likely that Ralf could not have been aware of or expecting an additional car (Kimi) to be alongside Rubens, thereby denying Rubens the opportunity to safely yield. Therefore, I don't think Ralf behaved in a manner warranting penalty.

As for Kimi, I think he could have reasonably expected Rubens to give him racing room without Rubens forcing Kimi onto the grass. Therefore I don't think Kimi is at fault, either. He found himself with only two dangerous choices of causing wheel-to-wheel contact by decelerating with interlocked wheels while maintaining his line along the edge of the pavement in the losing hope that Rubens could give him racing room, or dangerously dropping two wheels onto the grass while under heavy acceleration.

In summary, my opinion is that this was a racing incident and none of the drivers should be penalized.

I agree with Phantom - it wasn't something where anyone was really at fault.
