How much are the NY chapter events?

I've got $70 to last me two weeks, which is why I'm asking. :stickoutt

I believe for members it's $35 and non members $45

what exactly do they check for during the tech inspection?

From what I know the battery cannot move. Maybe tires? Idk. Go here and post the question on what is checked

Judging by the first and only autocross I've attended a couple of weeks ago, they just shook the car, specifically the front wheels (I guess to check for worn tie rods?) and just did a quick look-over to see if anything was present in the trunk and such. Just empty out your car, and if you don't have any suspension issues / anything dangerous (like exposed wires in the engine compartment) then you'll be fine.

I dont eat that nasty shit lol.

Eddie, we should make ourselves a designated spot so we can leave some stuff around. I'm gonna take my spare out and all the shit in my trunk.

i guess i better tie up the wires i haven't connected and tie down my battery some how....I hope my suspension will pass, i think i have some play in the front.

Won't be a problem. Just be sure to have it with you at tech inspection. I guess you could take your car to tech earlier or later than your partner's car...

For autox you generally run higher pressure in the front on street tires to prevent the tire from rolling over. Its not uncommon for people to use 42psi up front, depending on the tire. I wouldnt recommend showing up with only 32psi all around - youre better off starting higher and releasing air as needed.

Masking tape and some kind of electrical tape just in case.
Tape is the cheapest numbering you can get!


As for tire pressures; well I just showed up with 35psi all around and it was fine for the day. Never got sideways (yeah, right, as though I had enough power to get unintentionally sideways :rolleyes) and only understeered when at the very, extreme limit on my Krapmo tires.

it's not gonna rain till monday, but that could change this early in the week. Anyone that is coming, i will be putting together a tool box in case anyone needs to use it. It'll have all the basic metric tools. Anyone have any special tools (socket sives, wrenches, etc.) they might need that i might be able to bring?

I don't have a helmet yet. Do they have helmets for rental?

I'll be there with 4-5 other E36's. Definitely worth getting a BMWCCA membership if you plan on going again. I usually try to attend all their events....

How are you tying down the battery? Mine is not held down by anything.

Do you guys think it would be a bad idea to show up with a unpainted m3 front bumper on my car? I have to test fit the thing anyway, and I probably won't want to take it off though :(

i'll have to skip this one. too much party going on. the next bmwcca event is on aug. 1st :eek:. i might do the may 31st scca autox.

depending on how many participants, the event usually ends around 4PM.

no one really cares how your car looks but it's nice to have a presentable ride for the viewers :D

you can draw the course on a piece of paper for your reference. walk the course as much as you can and get an instructor to ride with you on your first 2 runs.

jam a piece of wood, that one side that scres down won't be enough to keep the battery tight.

Nice, you guys made some good progress! I think you two were running 75's at first, but shaving off 10 seconds ain't bad at all!


Unfortunately, I could only shave off 4 or so seconds, but I'm really happy that almost every single run resulted in a faster time than before. 61.209 was my best (Class A). w00t

IT WAS SOOOO MUCH FUN!! !!! !!!!!! I'm gonna go to every single autox from now on. (might need new tires before the winter, haha)

Great day yesterday. Couldnt have asked for better weather although I am rocking an intense farmer's tan now :cool

My best time, 60.7 seconds, was on my 6th run and I was pissed when I couldnt do the 8th run to try and break below 60 seconds. My car was understeering like hell through the section just before the last slalom, maybe I needed to slow my speed down over there. I know I could have done a 59 or 58 second run if I curtailed all that understeer.

This was good though for my 1st autox in this car and 1st time since 2003. I had gone 3 other times in 2002-2003 in my old 325i. Only recognized a few people there yesterday who were there back in '02.

Yea, looking at my vids I know I could have pushed it way more. Maybe get like 63 or something. Next time...

Great time guys!! I had a blast!!

My best time was a 56.1. I was getting 57's all day long consistently and was just trying to break that barrier to a 56, and everything just clicked on the last run. I ended up getting 2nd in my class, losing to that red e90 M3, only by 2 tenths of a second. I wish we would have gotten an 8th run, but that's alright. I was also only half a second away from getting fast time of the day on street tires ...... :D

Great meeting you guys though, and hopefully you'll all be out for the rest of the season!

I'll be making it to every one, i need to do major suspension work before the next event. Watching the vids, just as solidjake said, i definitely could've pushed harder. Oh well, next time. my wheel bearing is screaming now, gotta replace those too lol.

How did you put it 'under' the passenger headrest??? I would think a tripod can't handle the quick left and right movements of the car?

Keep the tripod collapsed, list the headrest high so you can slide the tripod sideways under it, push the headrest down to pin it.
