View Full Version : May 23 AutoX - NY Chapter Solidjake 05-16-2009, 01:05 AM Registration is now available http://www.nybmwcca.org/autox_schedule.php frontin540i 05-16-2009, 01:09 PM just registered! and joined CCA! az3579 05-16-2009, 06:47 PM How much are the NY chapter events? I've got $70 to last me two weeks, which is why I'm asking. :stickoutt frontin540i 05-16-2009, 10:20 PM I believe for members it's $35 and non members $45 Solidjake 05-16-2009, 11:27 PM "One last important note, the Auto-X fees have been changed. It is now $35 for BMW CCA members and $50 for Non-members." Le Nitro 05-16-2009, 11:37 PM :shifty 50 bux down my wallet, i should have joined the cca a month ago when i had money...:( PS registered earlier today Solidjake 05-16-2009, 11:41 PM It's only $15 more. Just cut off two mcdonald meals :) frontin540i 05-17-2009, 12:01 AM he doesn't eat mac donald's..........lol what exactly do they check for during the tech inspection? Solidjake 05-17-2009, 12:15 AM From what I know the battery cannot move. Maybe tires? Idk. Go here and post the question on what is checked http://www.nybmwcca.org/forums/ az3579 05-17-2009, 12:43 AM Judging by the first and only autocross I've attended a couple of weeks ago, they just shook the car, specifically the front wheels (I guess to check for worn tie rods?) and just did a quick look-over to see if anything was present in the trunk and such. Just empty out your car, and if you don't have any suspension issues / anything dangerous (like exposed wires in the engine compartment) then you'll be fine. Le Nitro 05-17-2009, 01:10 AM I dont eat that nasty shit lol. Eddie, we should make ourselves a designated spot so we can leave some stuff around. I'm gonna take my spare out and all the shit in my trunk. frontin540i 05-17-2009, 11:45 AM i guess i better tie up the wires i haven't connected and tie down my battery some how....I hope my suspension will pass, i think i have some play in the front. xtremsiege2 05-17-2009, 08:14 PM :shifty 50 bux down my wallet, i should have joined the cca a month ago when i had money...:( PS registered earlier today How much is an annual membership? frontin540i 05-17-2009, 08:21 PM $40 for the year BMWm20b25 05-17-2009, 11:02 PM battery should be properly mounted, no play on all wheels and throttle cable return. no loose obejct in the car and i believe they will also check your helmet. Le Nitro 05-18-2009, 01:45 AM battery should be properly mounted, no play on all wheels and throttle cable return. no loose obejct in the car and i believe they will also check your helmet. what if your sharing a helmet with someone? I'm most likely going to use frontin540i's helmet. az3579 05-18-2009, 06:59 AM what if your sharing a helmet with someone? I'm most likely going to use frontin540i's helmet. Won't be a problem. Just be sure to have it with you at tech inspection. I guess you could take your car to tech earlier or later than your partner's car... jburnham 05-18-2009, 12:37 PM I'm a first timer. Helmet ordered and starting my lists: prep work for Friday: Remove subwoofer Secure battery retorque lug nuts 40psi all around Flush and bleed brakes Items to bring: white shoe polish windex water sunblock sunglasses folding chair food wouldn't 40psi be alot? I mean I understand some people may want to go sideways, but the objective is to be fast in the corners...so I think i'm gonna be somewhere around 32psi maybe even lower around 28psi than raise it back up before I leave Omg, it supposed to be pouring on saturday...i guess everyone will be SITTIN SIDEWAYS...locked diff ftl :( VengeanceM3 05-18-2009, 04:29 PM wouldn't 40psi be alot? I mean I understand some people may want to go sideways, but the objective is to be fast in the corners...so I think i'm gonna be somewhere around 32psi maybe even lower around 28psi than raise it back up before I leave Omg, it supposed to be pouring on saturday...i guess everyone will be SITTIN SIDEWAYS...locked diff ftl :( For autox you generally run higher pressure in the front on street tires to prevent the tire from rolling over. Its not uncommon for people to use 42psi up front, depending on the tire. I wouldnt recommend showing up with only 32psi all around - youre better off starting higher and releasing air as needed. BMWm20b25 05-18-2009, 04:57 PM I'm a first timer. I've started reading some FAQs, but would appreciate links to more information. Helmet ordered and starting my lists: prep work for Friday: Remove subwoofer Secure battery retorque lug nuts 40psi all around Flush and bleed brakes Items to bring: white shoe polish windex water sunblock sunglasses folding chair food umbrella, protection from sun and rain large garbage bags for your stuff (in case it rains) extra quart of oil, brake fluid or PS fluid. that's all i can add to your stuff frontin540i 05-18-2009, 10:04 PM i was hoping it would rain!!!!! Should be fun. dzl i have the portable air compressor so we can adjust accordingly. i have to bleed my brakes too, maybe..... would i pass tech with a crack in the windshield? az3579 05-18-2009, 10:39 PM would i pass tech with a crack in the windshield? I don't see how that could be a problem... And add this to your list: TAPE! Masking tape and some kind of electrical tape just in case. Tape is the cheapest numbering you can get! As for tire pressures; well I just showed up with 35psi all around and it was fine for the day. Never got sideways (yeah, right, as though I had enough power to get unintentionally sideways :rolleyes) and only understeered when at the very, extreme limit on my Krapmo tires. frontin540i 05-18-2009, 11:21 PM it's not gonna rain till monday, but that could change this early in the week. Anyone that is coming, i will be putting together a tool box in case anyone needs to use it. It'll have all the basic metric tools. Anyone have any special tools (socket sives, wrenches, etc.) they might need that i might be able to bring? eek142 05-19-2009, 12:31 PM I don't have a helmet yet. Do they have helmets for rental? purduinaM3 05-19-2009, 03:03 PM I'll be there with 4-5 other E36's. Definitely worth getting a BMWCCA membership if you plan on going again. I usually try to attend all their events.... blueIce 05-20-2009, 10:29 AM How are you tying down the battery? Mine is not held down by anything. purduinaM3 05-20-2009, 07:28 PM Only 18 spots left to preregister!!! Get in on this! bwm3 05-20-2009, 07:45 PM Just registered for this. I'm a newbie to autox, two quick questions for folks that have done this before: Where is the location? Nassau colliseum? Is there a map of the course available? Map of the course not available, since it's usually made up the night before.... its changed every time. Solidjake 05-20-2009, 09:28 PM I'll be there around 7:30 Le Nitro 05-21-2009, 01:30 AM Washing my car tomorrow, taking out all the shit and making sure its safe enough to drive on saturday. Can't wait to do my 1st one! Do you guys think it would be a bad idea to show up with a unpainted m3 front bumper on my car? I have to test fit the thing anyway, and I probably won't want to take it off though :( bwm3 05-21-2009, 09:14 AM Does anyone know what time these events usually end? BMWm20b25 05-21-2009, 09:25 AM i'll have to skip this one. too much party going on. the next bmwcca event is on aug. 1st . i might do the may 31st scca autox. depending on how many participants, the event usually ends around 4PM. no one really cares how your car looks but it's nice to have a presentable ride for the viewers :D you can draw the course on a piece of paper for your reference. walk the course as much as you can and get an instructor to ride with you on your first 2 runs. good luck and have fun Le Nitro 05-21-2009, 10:32 AM I'm getting an instructor w/ me def. 1st time out, good to learn the ropes w/ someone with alottt of experience. blueIce 05-21-2009, 09:07 PM I stopped at BMW Manhattan and picked up the battery tie down parts. Actually the part numbers werent available in their system which was weird so I bought the parts from an E39, same pieces. It holds down one side of the battery but its not an OEM batt and isnt as long. The other end of the batt does not butt up against the two tab/brackets in the bottom of the battery tray. You think its ok to have just one end held down tight? Otherwise I will jam a piece of wood in there or something to make it tight against the brackets.:devillook eek142 05-22-2009, 02:53 PM I'll be there tomorrow. frontin540i 05-22-2009, 03:02 PM I stopped at BMW Manhattan and picked up the battery tie down parts. I even ordered a helmet and have done my prep work on my car. I'll be so dissapointed if I drive all the way down there and can't sign up. Based on the pre-reg filling up, I'm guessing it's going to be busy. Did anyone else get / not get their confirmation email? az3579 05-22-2009, 10:06 PM Damn. It's closed. :( I'm guessing there's no day-of-event registration? Le Nitro 05-22-2009, 10:53 PM They allow 75 to register, and than first 15 to show up get a walk-in slot, i registered my dad, but he backed out tonight, hes just going to come and watch. So there ya go, you know there will be another slot. I'm guessing there's no day-of-event registration? there is, first 15 to show up after the pre-registered people get entry, also anyone who pre registered and is a no show. eek142 05-22-2009, 11:19 PM Quick question...does anything have to be done to an E46 OEM battery for it to pass the tech inspection? Um, basically, last time I drove around until you saw a shit ton of cars. I'm pretty sure I remember off the top of my head, but you go in through the main entrance and it should be to your left. az3579 05-23-2009, 06:04 AM Um, basically, last time I drove around until you saw a shit ton of cars. I'm pretty sure I remember off the top of my head, but you go in through the main entrance and it should be to your left. Problem is I have to go ultra early to be guaranteed a spot, so there won't be a shitload of cars. :( frontin540i 05-23-2009, 06:45 AM well, i'm up too!!!!!!!!!!lol Also, PM sent with my number in case you run into trouble. Le Nitro 05-23-2009, 05:34 PM This shit was the bomb! Best run was 63 seconds in class B, I went down from 73 seconds :D P.S. sway bars help so much Solidjake 05-23-2009, 05:53 PM Oh man, today was a fuking blast!!!!!! WOW Great meeting you guys and some nice looking cars! I'll have vids up in a few hours and some pics if my friend got some. I got a 65.555 for Class C. I hope that's good. jburnham 05-23-2009, 07:33 PM Fan-F'ing-Tastic! Thanks for posting the info about the event here - I wouldn't have known about it otherwise. I think my best run was 65.8 for Class B. Most of my runs were over 70 until I gave up on technique and just mashed the gas and spun the steering wheel on the last run. I'm sure it looked like I was having a seizure. az3579 05-23-2009, 08:01 PM Oh man, today was a fuking blast!!!!!! WOW Great meeting you guys and some nice looking cars! Nice, you guys made some good progress! I think you two were running 75's at first, but shaving off 10 seconds ain't bad at all! Unfortunately, I could only shave off 4 or so seconds, but I'm really happy that almost every single run resulted in a faster time than before. 61.209 was my best (Class A). w00t Solidjake 05-23-2009, 09:19 PM IT WAS SOOOO MUCH FUN!! !!! !!!!!! I'm gonna go to every single autox from now on. Le Nitro 05-23-2009, 10:15 PM i made a mount tonight for next time. Anyone have pics of today? i'm hoping someone actually took a pic of me. Edit: Times are online: http://nybmwcca.org/results.php?id=46 Got 2nd in my class, missed 1st by 1 second :( I would have gotten a trophy if i stayed. I wonder if I can pick it up next time i'm there. blueIce 05-24-2009, 09:11 AM Great day yesterday. Couldnt have asked for better weather although I am rocking an intense farmer's tan now :cool My best time, 60.7 seconds, was on my 6th run and I was pissed when I couldnt do the 8th run to try and break below 60 seconds. My car was understeering like hell through the section just before the last slalom, maybe I needed to slow my speed down over there. I know I could have done a 59 or 58 second run if I curtailed all that understeer. This was good though for my 1st autox in this car and 1st time since 2003. I had gone 3 other times in 2002-2003 in my old 325i. Only recognized a few people there yesterday who were there back in '02. Solidjake 05-24-2009, 11:53 AM Yea, looking at my vids I know I could have pushed it way more. Maybe get like 63 or something. Next time... You saw that Dinan E46 drifting all of the third lane? hahaha purduinaM3 05-24-2009, 12:10 PM Great time guys!! I had a blast!! My best time was a 56.1. I was getting 57's all day long consistently and was just trying to break that barrier to a 56, and everything just clicked on the last run. I ended up getting 2nd in my class, losing to that red e90 M3, only by 2 tenths of a second. I wish we would have gotten an 8th run, but that's alright. I was also only half a second away from getting fast time of the day on street tires ...... :D Great meeting you guys though, and hopefully you'll all be out for the rest of the season! frontin540i 05-24-2009, 02:23 PM I'll be making it to every one, i need to do major suspension work before the next event. Watching the vids, just as solidjake said, i definitely could've pushed harder. Oh well, next time. my wheel bearing is screaming now, gotta replace those too lol. az3579 05-24-2009, 02:32 PM Jake, What did you make your mount out of? How did you put it 'under' the passenger headrest??? I would think a tripod can't handle the quick left and right movements of the car? Perhaps I'm not picturing how you have it mounted...
