Hey guys.

Getting a Pioneer Avic N5 nav unit this weekend. Planning to install the HD radio, Ipod adapter, and Bluetooth for cellular. I will be picking up a wiring harness adapter so don't have to cut into the original wiring. But was wondering what type of install kit you guys with aftermarket head units used to lock the new unit into place? I called Pioneer and they said Metra manufacturers them and are sold at Fry's, Best buys, etc. But I could not find the one that works for our cars or the e36, I assume it's the same for both.

Also, if anybody did install one of the Avic N series, I appreciate if you could post some pics.

Thanks all.

if it is single din just use the can that comes with the radio. No kit required.

Thanks guys. Yes single din. So it just snaps into place then? Our original units have the screws on each side to put pressure on the edges so it won't come out. So the aftermarket units, especially this unit can easily be taken off then...I mean stolen. Ohh.

I installed my single din Alpine about 3 weeks ago. There should be a metal bracket around the casing of the deck. You have to make sure you tuck those wires down and out of the way from the deck. The amps on the rear of the deck petrude and get really hot, so it is better to not have them adjacent to the stock/harness wires. Once you put the metal bracket in "first" make sure you use a flat head screwdriver to "secure/clamp/pinch" the metal tabs in the outer area of the insert cavity of the dash. Once this is in place, slide the deck in the supplied metal braket you secured. It should lock into place once you do that. Getting it out is the fun part...:confused

There's a screw hole in the rear of the radio console for the earliar models, Not sure if it's the same for yours but if so, you can use that with a screw to fit with a rubber gromment or two for a snug fit through the threaded hole in the rear of the Head Unit for added theft deterrent, Makes it nice and snug, Works great!

Thanks 8eights. Will take a look when I get the unit and take apart my console.
