850EYE 05-10-2009, 01:27 AM Lucky you have other people to meet with and discuss things about the car. I don't know nor have anybody here in Minnesota with one, except one guy who I meet once, and never talked to him again. Be nice to get some help up here in the cold state...:(<---sad 850 owner.
ethanw 05-10-2009, 01:59 AM Hey mate is not Minnesota.... Is Minnes[oooooo]ta :-) It is freaking cold there, thats for sure...

LEFT OVER RICE 05-10-2009, 05:37 PM I've finally found a reason not to like you Texan 8 owners:rolleyes
Nice video(s) and great looking cars. I've got to come to one of the meets once I move to Texas, not sure of what part yet though, but I have a couple of years to think about it:D
hipshot 05-10-2009, 09:20 PM Austin is really the only place to live in TX. no offense to any other city, the rest are nice to visit. But Austin is the place that everyone wants to live.
Most college grads do their best to find a job so you dont have to move. Did mention that the women are incredible?
smokum 05-10-2009, 09:29 PM incredible as in flexable incredible???

hipshot 05-10-2009, 09:45 PM both flexible and incredible!

Sorry for the derrogitory images above. I have family in Huston, Georgetown, and Hereford, so were spread out. How were the market values for Austin before we were hit by this economic crisis? I know of a place down here by my house thats been on the market for 2 years. The house is old, lots of dry wood, etc, but the selling point is the 3 acres with a secluded lake. Its not pond sized, its HUGE. All of this for a very good price. I'm keeping my eye on this for future reference, already did a couple of draw ups on the property if you were to put a nicer home there with about 13-1,600 sq. ft. Oh, the possibilities.
ethanw 05-10-2009, 10:51 PM The only good thing in Austin is the tattoo shops and party streets :-) Had my share there :-) Indeed Austin is a great place... I used to spend a lot of time on lake Travis...
Austin is very hip but so is Houston.... Actually from a diversity perspective Houston is much better. Houston is a very international place with people from all over the world... And the job market ain't bad here.....
But overall Texas RULES......

hipshot 05-11-2009, 01:17 AM if i wanted diversity..i'd move back to New York.!!! :) Austin is starting to be filled with Cali's and what not. Bringing the whole tone down! (Sorry west coast but really - all your money is chaning my little town) Too many 'fancy' uppity people, as Texans say.
I like Austin cause its just a little whacky, its very laid back, and it has a good professional market if your in tech/education/public sector or services industry. Its a town for artists, activists and entrpreneurs.
So far the property market is steady, off a bit but not as bad as PHX here its maybe down 10% in some areas 20% in others.
3 acres sounds nice. We have a little bit of space like that and my kids love playing in the creek, and the brush playing games etc.
Good nite fellas.
tdotbimmer 05-11-2009, 01:44 AM Was in both Houston and Austin last year. I like both places. And did I say, I like the Texan food portions? And oh the weather too.

Been there, done that, I'll pass!
Sorry I couldn't make it, was out in West Texas (El Paso) enjoying the weather....

That's ok. We will do another one. If we could get all the Texas 8s together at once it would be quite a gathering.
TTTXGreg 05-12-2009, 01:16 AM I may be able to borrow my friends ranch with facilities and nice setting for a picnic. When is the question, it's getting hot now and the weather is going to be wild for another month or so. Then it's REAL hot, so it looks like maybe fall. By then, I'm thinking on a road trip to AZ. Good 8 roads out that way. Another suggestion for a meet with an agenda is possibly Sonora Caves. Heat wouldn't really matter much for that day, and the speed limit on I-10 is 80-85 I think. Or is everyone looking for a wrenchfest theme in addition? And Ethan, nice "church" comment. IIRC, I have only sponsored one event here in TX. The rest of these have been other folks, and you have been welcomed and invited to every one. What's the deal?:confused
Doug, sorry I couldn't make it. I was close by at Canyon Lake for the weekend with out of state friends. Next one...
How many cars showed?
ethanw 05-12-2009, 01:54 AM Greg you really read way too much into my comments. The "church" word was intended to be in fun spirit.. as in we all crazy 8 owners worship the "church" of 8th... Since you have the most 8's and have the best 8 restoration projects it looks like you're the most religious one. I always felt and feel welcome by everything you guys do and when I find the time for sure I will show up....
I am not sure if my explanation made it better or worse but I feel like my sense of humor is not clicking with you....

I'm gettin' it! Thanks. Try to make the next one, so will I. There is also the BBORR run out in Sanderson/Fort Stockton this October. Ed (MWrench) will be there supplying the time traps. They just had one in April. Mostly Vettes, Ed has requested an 8 showing since our meeting out there last year. I really have no interest in running "in" the race. It's a fun drive around there anyway. The thing to do is plan on spending a nite in the hotel there with the racers, it's a good party atmosphere and band in the courtyard. Could be a good place for a "guys" 8 gathering, not sure the women would get anything out of it. BBORR (http://www.bborr.com)
Edit: current look at the website contradicts what Ed and I discussed recently- Looks like no October race.....April 2010
