View Full Version : ordered wokke chips but....
vogs82 05-09-2009, 01:57 AM Hey guys I browse this forum all the time and love my e31 but rarely post. I have a 1992 alpina white 850i(a), with csi body upgrades. I recently ordered the full chip package from wolf and am very anxiously awaiting them. I started taking things apart knowing they should be here any day....and I found that my car is chipped with Turner motorsports chips. They are 299 a piece! here is a link: http://www.turnermotorsport.com/pages/chip_application_2008.pdf
Are these any good? Does anyone have experience with them? I am thinking of putting the EML chip in and trying both with it, I have a shop 5 minutes away that i could dyno both, I am so tempted but what is a guy to do! Thanks for any input. Matt
yes wuffer your part is on its way monday! sorry for the delay, new baby here.
tread72 05-09-2009, 04:28 AM do the dyno and report back, would love to see the results on paper.....

yes, please
rockytt 05-09-2009, 08:20 PM I've got the conforti's in there as well, just added the eml chip to the package-
Would love to see the dyno results as well.
Everyone keeps saying that the Wokke engine chips are far superior to anything else out there and I'd like to see some numbers to back up that claim.
vogs82 05-10-2009, 03:44 AM alright, that settles it, as soon as they arrive I will post the numbers, my plan is to run it on the dyno as it sits with the Turner chips, then Turner and EML, then Wokke and EML. I wish I could post numbers with the stock DME but I dont have em! I would love to here from anyone out there that has the Turner chips...Matt
wokke 05-10-2009, 03:49 AM alright, that settles it, as soon as they arrive I will post the numbers, my plan is to run it on the dyno as it sits with the Turner chips, then Turner and EML, then Wokke and EML. The EML does not change any HP or torque numbers. It just controls the behavior of the electronic throttle. A comparison to stock would indeed be nice because this way you can only compare the two different performance chips.

vogs82 05-10-2009, 03:58 AM wolf your absolutely right, its late here in the midwest! I will post the dyno numbers after they arrive...
Bryson 05-10-2009, 07:07 AM Wolf, so this is to say that your EML chip does not solve the WOT issue before 4200rpm?
The Texas guys are claiming that their 8s accelerate faster with the EML v2 installed, maybe this was an inadvertent result of working the throttle mapping? If not, I don't see how the claim of improved total acceleration could possibly be valid

Quite simple. Thanks to the new EML V2.0 mapping the throttle butterflies open much quicker thus getting the engine much faster into the rev range where it actually produces power. This is IMO THE problem with the M70 setup which has now been solved.

Wolf
Bryson 05-10-2009, 07:13 AM flooring the pedal really took that long for the throttles to open? I agree that when rolling into the throttle pedal, it takes far too much input to get desired output. I'm talking just slamming the pedal down, from my experience, this delay is not so huge to warrant a car length of difference (from memory I believe this was the result)
wokke 05-10-2009, 07:22 AM remove the air cleaner so you can see the butterfly. Then have someone slam the pedal and watch. You'll be surprised. I think if someone knows a lot about the E31-850 it is Steffen and he wouldn't start a thread like he has done just to do me a favor (I think :)) because he would risk his reputation.
Maybe also Wuffer can tell you soon if there is a remarkable difference or not since he should receive his EML V2.0 very soon if he hasn't already received it.
Bryson 05-10-2009, 07:43 AM Oh I don't doubt you for a second, once some of my other goodies are completed, you'll be getting an email from me in short order.
I've always been curious to hook up a small camera and watch the throttle open while driving under load actually, maybe I'll do this in the near future - have one of those neat snap-on cameras with built in LED lighting. I was under the impression somehow that the throttles open less when the car is not moving. I've actually done the quick test you mentioned myself and observed that the throttles do not open fully, but the speed of the butterfly opening seemed somewhat reasonable given the impression I was under
lloydsss 05-10-2009, 10:31 AM rocky tt, i replaced the my confortis with the new wokkes. there was an incredible improvement!!! as bob dylan says, "you don't need a waeatherman to know which the wind blows" makes the car feel like my e46 m3.
1chiban 05-10-2009, 12:36 PM Wolf's chips are the lifeblood of our 8ers ;).
8eights 05-10-2009, 01:22 PM There good for most 8's, They will interefere or defeat the purpose of a high output hp car which would require specific custom chips, They are excellent for a mild built or stock engine.
Wuffer 05-10-2009, 06:53 PM Havent received mine yet as I only go to my US Mailbox once/week. Will post an unbiased opinion when installed and tested.

Believe it or not, there was no mod for the EML on the Dinan TT cars. Only the DME's. I dropped Steffen's EML in the TT when he was here. All I can say is, the Wokke EML does not interfere or defeat the purpose of the DME mods or TT operation at first glance. I'm waiting on mine from Wolf, had to order one immediately- needless to say! I have also tried the Wokke EML in my stock Glacier. It's a hoot there as well. The only thing it defeated on the TT was trying to control the car during acceleration! Wolf's EML chip re-maps the throttle linearity, i.e.-less pedal=more throttle. So, it's "froggy" with that first tap of the pedal and offers that quicker response thru acceleration. Not sure it solves the WOT 4200rpm thing, but I can tell you, it doesn't matter. I endorse the V2 totally if it counts. Good job Wolf.:buttrock

wokke 05-12-2009, 03:41 AM I don't know WTF is going wrong with USPS. Your chips are in the US since several days. I can't get rid of the feeling that US customs is the problem. They even managed to loose an entire set of rims recently.

vogs82 05-12-2009, 04:56 PM I got mine today, and am going straight to the garage to put em in! It may take a couple of weeks to get the dyno done with both sets tho...
8eights 05-12-2009, 05:48 PM Please post obvious differences, I noticed a huge difference off the line and the car shifted strong throughout the powerband.
TTTXGreg 05-12-2009, 08:21 PM Wolf- chip was at the office when I returned from out of town today. Already installed in the TT. Absolutely wild! Thanks for a great product.:alright
actually it's fun, Not fast! Wanna see fast? :D
8's- I like the Camaro numbers!! Nice.
8eights 05-12-2009, 09:30 PM I was just kidding Greg, Glad to see your having fun, You deserve a TT, I'm concerend that Glacier knows something is going on!
vogs82 05-12-2009, 10:02 PM Alright, guys I dont think i am a complete idiot, but i installed the chips and was extremely careful and actually was surprised at how easy and simple it was...but when i went to start her up all she does is turn over and not fire??? Did I miss something, I took the eml and both dme's back apart to see if i fd up the chips or something but all prongs look good and the slots are in the correct orientation and still nothing. She ran perfect and started everytime with no trouble before, any help.. Thanks all Matt
8eights 05-12-2009, 10:05 PM Did you install right side up?
vogs82 05-12-2009, 10:18 PM damnit, they are upside down!...seriously, I even went back and reinstalled the old chips and oem eml chip and it wont fire. this scares me. I was careful with all the wiring and circuit boards...I am at a loss...
Fatandre 05-12-2009, 10:25 PM Where can I find instructions for the install?
8eights 05-12-2009, 10:31 PM Nice instructions in his ebay listings and his site.
Wuffer 05-12-2009, 10:46 PM Did you orient the notch on the chip with the notch on the socket?
1chiban 05-12-2009, 10:47 PM yes.
vogs82 05-12-2009, 11:29 PM Good news car is running!
full story in a quick version:
installed all 3 chips result wudnt fire-
thought the eml was the prob so i put the oem eml back in with the wokke dme chips, wudnt fire-
put the wokke eml back in, no luck-
kept wokke eml in and changed dme1 back to turner chip, fired up but ran rough as hell-
kept wokke eml in and changed both dme1 and 2 back to turner and it fired right up.
let her warm up and took her for a spin and holy s$$t it made a huge difference! She WAS ALIVE.
Now what in the world is up with the wokke dme chips? any thoughts, its obvious i did it right, and i am sure glad I kept those other two chips in the correct order on the side. I really want to see what the wokke difference would be but I cant!!!!!?????

Stay tuned....the Glacier is going to have one. We are in the process of establishing a kit. Looks promising. Will be labeled under "Sick Puppy Motorwerks" if it turns out. We will see, won't be for the faint hearted financially the way it's looking.

I've had it happen before that a chip obviously lost it's information. I will of course send you a replacement, no question.
Sorry for the trouble Matt.

Doug C 05-13-2009, 03:36 AM I just have to say, I had a set of v1 laying arround and new dinnan, now being one of the many out of work I had the time to work on the car and went to put the wooke chips in, saw the dme has been opened before so as a non bias I put the v1 eml, drove the car (what a diffrence) then came back opened the dme's found that there were infact dinnan, so I put wooke in and retested, end result is butt dyno liked the wooke chips better, would have been nice to do it on a dyno but mabe that can happen at a later date, I wish I could afford the v2
Thanks for the enjoyment :buttrock
The only weird thing is I swear my idle changed?

Did you synchronize the throttles after swapping the EML chip? Sometimes it is necessary.

I will do the search. Should be here somewhere.
Wuffer 05-13-2009, 07:54 PM Installed mine (with Conforti/Turner DME chips) and while my test drive was short, throttle response was more instant - almost like there was a positive connection to the throttle bodies rather than the fly by wire slight hesitation. Witholding total judgement for now until I can complete a roadtrip this weekend.

Note to all:
Although I posted the first page of the Installation Instructions, there are final details that need to be worked out, these include the Valve-body mods that are mentioned in the post. As soon as things are finalized with respect to type of mod, time frame, and cost, we will fill everyone in.
There is a need for a high-stall converter though. Stay tuned....

We are in very early stages of assembling a TT kit for the M70 cars. The opening page of the instructions start with the tranny mod for more robust shifting and durability with the added hp from the turbos. At this point we are not entertaining breaking the "package" in any way. It will be a complete kit with step by step instructions for install and calibration. What will be included is the manifolds, turbos, wastegates, intercoolers, downpipes ,all plumbing and fittings/hoses and electronics for a complete install. Very, very early stages of development and way to early to even speculate on price. Just for thought, I don't see it being less than 10-12k. Way too many variables at this point to predict.
1chiban 05-14-2009, 07:34 PM what's the projected hp/tq gains? Or what are your goals? I'm very excited for you and the rest of the 8ers, keep it up Greg.
