Hello, I just got my build sheet to my car and it turns out that I have one of 19 1991 bwm with the following color combo, 1 of 29 total bmw 850's produced.
Colour SCHWARZ (086)
Upholstery LEDER NAPPA/SILBERGRAU HELL (0353/M5SH)

And I also have the 436 Erle Grafik option which is "Automatic rear view mirror preparation"

so my question is, what does option 436 do, and how do I know that my mirror is not just a regular mirror instead of the automatic one. Thaks all

What makes you think "Erle Grafik" is "Automatic rear view mirror preparation"? Erle Grafik is a kind of dark wood. I'm not entirely sure what the English translation is, but I think alder-wood.

For any questions about the E31 option codes, don't hesitate to contact Jud from 8coupe.com (http://www.8coupe.com/). He's the authority on this front.

That is what was sent to me from 8coupe.com, and one of the guys there is also looking into this. I just hoped someone else would have some insight on this option code. And in 91 it was called "auto-dipping mirror" those this mean auto dimming mirror?

no, it's referring to your right side view mirror that tilts down when you put the car in reverse, to help parallel park.

My car has the same option code on its build spec sheet. The following is an excerpt from the email that Jud sent me along with the spec sheet. It explains some of the history around this option.

"BTW, I am anticipating a question about your build sheet options list, because it is one of the few USA-spec 8's that came with option code 436, Erle Grafik (a misnomer). Before BMW updated the options list in their IT systems around 1997 and changed this description to what you see on this report, this was formerly known at the given time as "S436A VORBER. STUFENLOS ABBLENDBARER INNENSP." and translates to "PREPN AUTOMATIC REAR VIEW MIRROR". A better translation is: "AUTOMATIC REAR VIEW MIRROR PREPARATION."

This option describes the wiring loom installation in the roof of the 8er since having this motorized dipping mirror retrofitted wasn't possible through the regular wiring looms in the car."

I hope that this helps.

It ain't an option. It's standard.
