hey guys i was wondering, i need help on removing a rear differential on a 1990 mercedes 560 sec. I've posted it on the benz forums, and haven't gotten a reply yet, so i figured to just post here since generally the procedures should be similar.

Has anyone done this on there own before? What are the basic routines to go about removing it? Approximately how long does it usually take?

Thanks

Probably not much help to be found here. I will sort of generalize though.

First remove the half shafts from the output flanges (I assume that the MB has a similar construction to a BMW). Then remove the driveshaft from the input flange. Don't let either of these hang on their own. Tie them up out of the way. CV joints don't like to be over stressed and tend to separate. You will then need to find all the bolts that hold the differential to the subframe/undercarriage. Be sure to have something (floor jack) supporting the differential when removing those bolts or you will drop it.
