I've been experimenting. Obviously the ideal situation would be to find a staggered set of throwing stars, but since I can't seem to find a reasonably priced set, I thought I'd simulate the look of a non-staggered set as closely as I could. All the "offset gurus" can chime in on what spacer I'd need to get the lip of the 8" ET10 rim out as far as the 9" ET19 rim in the rear. Oh I changed the color to Jet black while I was at it... ;)

Opinions on the look? It's growing on me. Would I be able to mount a 265/40/17 tire on the 8" rim in the rear, or would it bulge too much?

Just get 10mm rear spacers (even though the lip position change is less then 4mm as we talked about at length here? http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1218920&highlight=4mm). You cannot run anything less as it is not going to seat as well and you will get a drivetrain vibration.

Even with 10mm spacers you will be well within the fender arch.

The most you can mount (safely) on an 8in rim is a 255 tire. Even that balloons quite a bit. Check my new wheels thread (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1222641) for a picture of the E31 front wheel with a 255 tire. It does balloon a bit. A 265 would balloon to the point of poor seating on the wheel.

Morning Aura....... I see you're keeping the Viking Wheel boys busy.....:stickoutt They said they'd take all the customers like you I'd want to send them. We discussed the offset deal you're having done when I picked up my MK wheel.

Hehe :-D

They have become the vehicle to explore my random wheel ideas. :-D thanks again for the recommendation!

BTW, the MK wheels look (like they are coming along) great!!

What they've done to that bent wheel is pretty amazing isn't it? I'm actually directly involved with that wheel at this point: The one gouge on the face of the wheel just happened to go through the lettering spoke, so here it is rough filled and blasted and I'm carving the 'MK' back in. This is the before pic too. They found the perfect donor wheel for the rear barrel so it will match the other three. wmealer, I'm sure that Viking could come up with a configuration for the Throwing Stars that would suit you

Slightly off topic but I picked up a set of 5 throwing starts with tyres (need 2 new rears though) the other week for £199 off ebay! Well pleased!

Not looking forward to getting the tyres though.... it's probably a blessing in disguise that you can't get 265s on the 8J wheel!

I would just go with a 255 all around in that case. You will come out ahead with far less understeer then those of us with staggard setups. It would also help if your suspension is otherwise factory.
